“Currently about 2/3rds of all Dutch children walk or bike to school, with 75% of secondary school kids cycling to school. By enabling safe and active travel, Dutch cities prevent an estimated one million car journeys to school each morning.” — @modacitylife in #CurbingTraffic

Remember this one? Before & after of a brain after a 20 minute walk — why walking to work, or school, or just to get the intellectual juices flowing, is linked to better creative & intellectual performance. Among MANY other benefits to you and to society. Design #walkablecities.

Incredible snapshot of upper-middle-class college anxiety. Elite colleges have affirmative action for the very, very rich. Lower income students, who are less likely to apply, have a small advantage. This cashes out as a clear bias against upper-middle class applicants.

Quite the milestone! In an environment where it’s so easy to express frustration, it’s really moving to see the community come together. Onward! #VisionZero
We are so proud to unveil this new street project at Roosevelt Elementary today. A community effort - thank you to Stompers' Matti Rukholm, @CityofTampa, @Roosevelt_HCPS, and a lot of amazing volunteers! Best part = watching 300+ kids use this space to walk to this school daily.

LOVE love love @813Christine’s take on the Cass St. bridge and bicycle infrastructure projects in the @CityofTampa. “If we have a quick build model now, why aren’t we doing everything quick build? Why is there still a category of slow build?” https://t.co/hqSalFI0Wz

In the face of political leaders who dehumanize young people exploring their #gender identity, Both Can Be True by @J_Star_One is an amazing bit of counter-programming. A meet-cute for the ages.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are 16-7. They have won seven consecutive games with a run differential of 45-15. Yes, those games were against Colorado and Cincinnati. They are still victories. And while this may not be sustainable, they have the third-best record in baseball right now.

Great piece! Vultures are the immune systems of the animal kingdom. Who knew?!
As yesterday’s episode, Corpse Demon, seems to be touching a nerve, I thought it was time to pay homage to its lead reporter, Avir Mitra. Not only is he an ER Doctor, he’s a @Radiolab editor. And he’s brought some of the best stories of all time. Here they are, an @avirrr 🧵

Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users. ALL ROAD USERS. And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. For sharrows, it’s safer to NOT have them. Via @StreetsblogUSA
