For a country that is neutral and militarily non-aligned, we seem to be asking for a lot of military support from the allies we say that we don't need.
🇮🇪 may borrow navy ship for EU presidency. When years of underinvestment and neglect regarding the @defenceforces come home to roost, once again we are dependent on the kindness of others for protection. @ConorGallaghe_r in todays @IrishTimes. @MichealMartinTD

Based Carney remembering that Canadians are more British than they are Americans
Wild story from old man @TristinHopper. Carney demanded his budget use "Canadian spellings," but since he doesn't seem to understand this country very well and wishes it was still a British colony, he just used all these weird British spellings the government doesn't even use:

Shame we can't arrest the corrupt Ministers who set up this "VIP lane", but at least some of the crooks are getting caught out.
EXCLUSIVE 🚨The founder of Ayanda Capital, investment company which won a controversial £255m PPE contract via the “VIP lane”, arrested in sweeping HMRC investigation into unpaid tax Tim Horlick, whose firm had £155m of masks rejected on safety grounds, had home raided last year

I couldn't care less how politicians wear formal clothing, but the irony is not lost on me that all these people complaining about Starmer now supported Boris Johnson, who was well-known for being a scruff.
Collar gap, clip-on bow tie, sleeves too long, wrong shirt, tiny lapels. Embarrassing for the head of the country where black tie formalwear originated.

Labour have been screaming about the fiscal rules for years, there was entire section in the manifesto about how the strong foundation of economic stability was fundamental. Did people just think that was a joke?
As I say in this @FT piece: “The issue is never the manifesto or its specifics per se. The issue is trust. It is: what is the point that the voter decides they can’t trust somebody.” and “People voted in 2024 for change, they didn’t vote for social democratic austerity.”

We spent more than £100 billion on debt interest in 2024-25. That's more than we spend on all of Universal Credit, more than we spend on Education. That's not something we can ignore, and is something we should be aiming to reduce not increase.

This is the consequence of previous Governments' borrowing decisions. If you rely on borrowing that means you rely on people being willing to lend to you. Utterly insane that some people think we should do away with the fiscal rules and ratchet up borrowing even more.

This is such a tired talking point. This is from his time as Director of Public Prosecutions, and was normal for holders of that job. AND IT WAS MADE BY THE TORY GOVERNMENT AT THE TIME. (In fact one of the Treasury Ministers who signed it, @DesmondSwayne is still a Tory MP).
You will get hit by new taxes as you try to save for your old age, in order to let the Chancellor continue her out-of-control spending. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s pension is protected by a specific, named piece of legislation. Are these people for real?

And he resigned as OfS Chair directly after the Tories lost the General Election, you know like a partisan appointment would.

And just for context it's not that he was a Tory Member of Lords, and then took a leave of absence or resigned the Whip when he became OfS Chair. No he kept the Whip and on multiple occasions spoke and voted in the House, including on issues that directly affected his Office.

Hall is just seething because there's another person to be jealous of who actually won their Mayoral election. Honestly embarrassing that she is still the Leader of the London Tories. She should be nowhere near any leadership position.
This man Mamdani, like Sadiq Khan, will be a complete disaster. Elected on false promises. So called ‘progressive’ politicians in my view are dangerous and never deliver on their promises.

I'll give it to Matt on this occasion. The suggestion that BBC News is leftwing is absolutely hilarious.

Any political argument that contains the words "just do" is usually stupid. This is a massive example of that. People like Dale just pretending there is some magic "wealth tax" button the Chancellor can press which has all positive side effects and no negatives.

I don't recall this level of furore when the Conservatives appointed James Wharton as Chair of the Office for Students? Who not only had donated to them, but literally had their Party Whip in the House of Lords, and was Campaign Manager for Boris Johnson's Leadership Election.
We have not got to the bottom of this and the Prime Minister, Lisa Nandy and their teams have further questions to answer about the appointment of the transparently NOT 'independent' regulator. We shall continue to ask those questions until we get answers. https://t.co/LZoBjTSB7s

Although some arrivals were recorded yesterday, there was also 14 days in a row with no arrivals from 23rd October-5th November. See the full data here:

Greens economic policies being terrible makes a lot of sense when they show us that they think that there isn't much of a difference between 20 Million and 20 Billion. Let's remember, a million seconds is 11.5 days, a billion seconds is 31.7 YEARS.

It is good that these 4 have the Whip back, there's no need for these sorts of punishments to be permanent. But I suppose the question is will they have learned their lesson and play on the team, or will they be getting re-suspended in short order?
