I'm not sure people in the US quite understand how horrible things are in major cities in India right now. All of us have friends, family, PhD advisees, etc who are desperately seeking medical attention for themselves/family. Shortage of hospital beds, oxygen, meds; heartbreaking
There had been warning signs since February. But caught up in triumphalism, hubris, mixed messaging and claims about exceptionalism, India let its guard down. Now it is in the throes of a public health emergency. My piece.
