This violent assault of a female protester is shocking. It’s criminal. None can ever be attacked for exercising Charter rights. In fact, we must take positive steps to protect rights, including when protesting the killing in Gaza. All of society stands against this assailant.
This is a display of what appears to be another physical attack on peaceful protestors for Palestinian human rights. We are aware of this disturbing incident in Ottawa. We are in contact with those involved, including the authorities who were there for the attack. We

Reports of Israeli plans for military operations in Rafah will devastate civilians—including Canadians in Gaza. Protecting civilians is sacrosanct. Mass displacement is unacceptable. I echo Minister Joly. We need a sustained ceasefire, hostages released and humanitarian relief.
We are deeply concerned by reports of an Israeli military operation in Rafah. It would have devastating impact, putting the lives of Palestinians and foreign nationals, including 🇨🇦s, seeking refuge in grave danger and making the vital delivery of humanitarian aid dangerous. 1/2

Loud chants of "Jeetega bhai jeetega, Pakistan jeetega" in Hyderabad stadium. They did not start organically but DJ said "jeetega bhai jeetega" & left it to the crowd to finish the famous chant. The chant went on for close to a minute due to the DJ. #PAKvsSL #CWC23 #Hyderabad

Yes, in fact, one must go further. There is a dangerous and totalitarian strain of Islamic thought that enables this, and the Pakistani state has perhaps unwittingly created space for this strain in Pakistan and its neighbourhood through its support of Islamists of various hues.
Some might get offended but I have to say that this trope — ‘no Muslim can do this’ —every time a terror attack happens, needs to be retired and buried. It is plain BS just to delude ourselves and not get to the root of the matter:nurturing extremism and extremists is murderous!

A @WHO that is strong, responsive, and capably led at regional levels is good for member states. What’s applicable for DG selection should apply to Regional Director s/elections. 👇🏽
