so much of writing *for me* is just like: build a house. take it apart. use some of the raw materials to build a new house. rearrange the rooms. retile the whole thing. repaint the whole thing. decide you're too tired to tear it down. chop off a third of the house. live in it.

Someone I hooked up with in college decided to send me this tonight. I love the internet.

I used to think the worst anxiety a playwright had was "will I ever have another idea (for a play)?" Now I know it's, "will I be able to wrestle this play to the ground and finish it?"

Writing is re-writing the first three pages 100 times and then the last page is like "pee poo beep beep they sing happy birthday and ride dick-shaped cars into the ocean"

Rejections for things you forgot you applied to are worse because it’s like a stranger walked up to you to randomly say you’re trash.

The shadiest line in a rejection email I've ever seen: "We encourage you to apply for positions for which you qualify"

HIM: "Are you directing the play?" ME: "No" HIM: "Oh, so you just wrote it" Yeah pal, I JUST wrote it. I JUST spent weeks, months, years coming up with the story & the characters, plotting it, structuring it, writing all the dialogue, re-drafting it and the rest. JUST. Fuck you.

Writing is... • opening your laptop and then closing it again • typing with one hand because you're also eating a snack • being ferociously in love with your story bUT ALSO terrified you do not have the skills to do it justice

Receiving a rejection for something you didn’t remember you’d submitted is kind of like getting a surprise dental filling. #playwriting

Nick Jonas has been in the theatre community since he was a child, acting in Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast, Hairspray, and, most recently, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. But...

Just came across an unopened pack of Moleskine notebooks I got for Christmas. If I go out in public and write in these, am I an asshole?
