With his next RBI, Kyle Schwarber will have 100 on the year to go alongside 45 home runs, 100+ runs, and 100+ walks.
In 141 years of Phillies baseball, there have only been three such 45-100-100-100 seasons:
Mike Schmidt, 1979
Jim Thome, 2003
Ryan Howard, 2006

@PhilliesCBP
scoreboard is gigantic, of course, but feels like there’s lot of wasted space.
What did he do earlier tonight?
(No idea)
How many home runs does he have so far this year?
(No idea)
Not even any basic bio stuff (where’s he from?) on there. Fun facts? Nope.
According to his Instagram, Shane Victorino will be signing a one-day contract and retiring as a Phillie one month from today -- August 3. Have to think the team wants to make it a trifecta and do this with Howard and Rollins on that day, too.
If “Back to the Future” came out this year and Marty McFly went back 30
years, as he did in the original, he’d be playing “Smells Like Teen Spirit” at the dance.
Yeah, 1991 being as long ago now as 1955 was then makes my brain hurt. 🤯
Shohei Ohtani.
He just hit his 22nd HR — no one in MLB has more.
He’s hitting .301 with 10 SBs, 54 RBI, and an MLB-best 1.002 OPS. in the Angels 71 games.
Oh. He also has a 3.29 ERA, 105 K (third in MLB) and a .178 opponents BA (1st in MLB) in 14 starts.
Great way to market the game: current players in anonymous uniforms (literally don’t know teams guys pitching/hitting play for) while broadcast focuses its attention and audio (and a third of the screen) on three former players.
Hate how they don’t let starting pitchers pitch anymore in the modern game. Can you imagine Roy Halladay or Cliff Lee handing the ball over after 70 pitches?
Ironically Houston did the same in this ballpark a few years ago vs. Nationals. Took Greinke out early. Lost game, series
I got to cover a World Series series win and a WS series loss, a perfect game, a postseason no-hitter, a no-hitter at Wrigley, Cy Young Award winners, MVPs, future Hall of Famers. If today was my final day on the Phillies beat after 10 years, I can probably make peace with it.
The people that complained about the Phillies not having young stars to go watch at CBP should probably start paying attention to Aaron Nola.
And Rhys Hoskins. Oh, Obubel, too. Cesar Hernandez has really come into his own in last two years, too. Seranthony Dominguez is fun.
The Roy Halladay memorial was beautiful and emotional... and tough to watch. Within here are some of the highlights from speakers Chase Utley, John Middleton, Charlie Manuel, Chris Carpenter, and more:
Nats-Fish. Marlins broadcast. Maikel Franco makes a nice leaping stab of a line drive from Jorge Soler.
Marlins analyst: "That's not the same Maikel who was booed by Phillies fans."
Oh, come on! Franco was largely adored here, especially for a top prospect who struggled often.
One of the things you notice in re-airing of Halladay’s perfect game tonight: the institutional knowledge of long-time color commentator Chris Wheeler. Sure, he always did his homework, but he also knew more about Phillies history than just about anybody.
Michael Lorenzen is one of 4 MLB pitchers to come out of
@fullertonhigh
in Fullerton, CA.
All 4 have thrown no-hitters.
Walter Johnson, WAS: 7-1-1920
Steve Busby, KC: 4-27-73 & 6-19-74
Mike Warren, OAK: 9-29-83
Lorenzen, PHL: 8-9-2023

No games at noon, 12:30, or 1 p.m. EST. One game — one! — before 6:10 EST. Come on,
@MLB
. People have waited nearly 4 months for games. Games should be around the clock and televised/streamable during the first week of play, and especially on first date nearly everyone plays.
I had to do the math since some Phillies fans loooove re-sharing this tweet regularly. (For good reasons).
Since this tweet, from a little over a year ago, the Phillies have won 20 of their 29 games against the Nationals.
The Phillies (80-74) have to win just 2 of their final 8 games to capture the franchise’s first winning season in 10 years.
I’m sure they’ll make this very easy for you all, too.
Seven years ago on this date: SEAL Team Six took care of Osama Bin Laden, the president told the country, and the only major sporting event going on at the time, Phillies-Mets on Sunday Night Baseball, responded in kind.
The Padres bunted.
They bunted themselves out of a 9th inning rally with arguably the league’s best fielding pitcher on the mound.
One of the most baffling things I’ve ever seen.
But, Glen, I spent last night in both Center City and South Philly and the entire place was burned to the ground. Nothing but ashes and Wawa hoagie wrapping brushing through the barren, war-torn streets.
Walking around Philadelphia for the first time this week. People are smiling, happy, opening doors for each other, letting pedestrians through traffic. This is why sports can be great -- brings people together, even if just for a moment.
Thanks for reading - my stories nearly everyday since January 2008 and this overly dramatic tweet. I’m not quite sure what’s next. But if my Twitter goes mostly silent in the next few weeks/months, don’t hold it against me! Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukkah/Happy New Year.

Aw, man. Just seeing David Montgomery passed away. I knew things had to be bad when he wasn’t at the 2026 All-Star game press conference, one of his many passion projects in a lifetime devoted to the Phillies. There aren’t enough words here. An incredibly decent human being.
When people criticize MLB about not marketing its stars, and I’m kind of ambivalent about it, I’ll try to remember they decided to announce Home Run Derby participants at 10:38 p.m. on a Wednesday night.
A couple of things I've thought about in the last 24 hours: Roy Halladay has been retired for as long (four years) as he was with the Phillies. The reaction from Philadelphia since Tuesday's awful news is a reflection of incredible impact he had in such a short time.
And Smoltz makes an excellent point just now: there’s no guarantee every reliever you bring in has their best stuff on any given day. Each time you bring in a new pitcher, you’re rolling dice. The known: you starter *did* have his best stuff.
PHILADELPHIA — To commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the Black Sox scandal, when eight players allegedly conspired with gamblers to lose the World Series, Gabe Kapler threw a game to the White Sox.
(Or something like that.)
Really glad Roy Halladay got in on first ballot as he should have — he was the very definition of a Hall of Famer. Consistent excellency for so long. It’s just so tragic.
The Philadelphia sports writing community was dealt a devastating blow yesterday when we learned one of our own passed away, far too young. It’s taken me 24 hours to gather my thoughts and to read the touching tributes from friends.
Kevin’s story should continue to be shared.
What if I told you, a year ago today, that the Phillies would play in the 2022 World Series?
And that, in an elimination game, they’d take out Zack Wheeler at 70 pitches to bring in Jose Alvarado?
“World Series?!?! Sweet! And.. wait what was that last part??”

On May 29, 2010, the Philadelphia Flyers played in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals. It was on in the pressbox in Miami. Then Roy Halladay made us pay attention to the history he was making there that night.
