Whatever you think of the content of today's NHS planning guidance, today's doc represents two very big differences to previous years: 1) It's multi-year, and 2) It's been published in October. Brilliant work by NHS folks all round.

I got my Increment today through for my next level of banding (bear in mind you stay at the previous one for 5yrs). So now I am top of band 8a & no chance for more money unless I left diabetes. It meant a total of £26 extra in my payslip! 🤣 honestly why do they even bother?

“The strike represents a direct challenge to Streeting’s authority over pay, workforce policy and industrial relations. “ So why are they doing it? Channelling Peaky Blinders …..
Public opinion? It’s unlikely the doctors will carry public support… ... but they know that and they don’t care. These doctors aren't from the Dr Findlay era.

Twenty years ago Heth & I remortgaged our house to start a publishing company that would find great new stories others thought too risky to publish. Our books have been short listed and won awards and two have been adapted into TV series. Today we paid that mortgage off Magic!

@RoyLilley Resident docs are fighting for their training, jobs and being replaced by ACPs, PAs and Tom, Dick and Harry. As the maternity scandals demonstrate, it is unwise to mess with clinical standards, access and delegate total clinical responsibility to non doctors.

Hartley had no choice. Next step is for @wesstreeting to scrap @CareQualityComm & transfer it's safety assurance tasks where they rightly belong with @H_S_E
BREAKING: Sir Julian Hartley has quit as head of the CQC, saying his role has become "incompatible" with the inquiry into maternity care at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, where he was once CEO. "I am so sorry for the fact that some families suffered harm and loss during this time."

I had a number of private message from very senior NHS Trust and ICB people endorsing the message of this blog. Is there anyone in a senior position who thinks the Government mandating one-off online diversity training for all NHS staff is a good idea? Happy to hear from you?

Brutal assessment of the Health Secretary and his coterie here by @RoyLilley…
For the NHS, it’s another escalation in a destructive cycle brought about by an inexperienced health secretary, advised by people who want us to make the same mistakes they made 20 years ago. It’s time for a change.

During the last action NHSE tried to downplay strikes and project a ‘business as usual’ image. Brushing off the impact. I’m not sure that will hold as winter draws-in.

They calculate, given the unpopularity of HMG and recent missteps, it’s likely attention will turn on the competence of the government. Can Streeting project a government in control, credible, responsive. I doubt it. It looks to me reactive and cornered.

The NHS is a core issue for Labour. Many supporters will expect Streeting to defend and strengthen it... ... actually, he's attacked it with his 'broken' message and weakened it with chaotic reforms.

prevail on the non-striking NHS to once more bust-a-gut to keep services flowing. I imagine a lot will think carefully about donating their discretionary effort, to dig Streeting out of a hole he’s dug for himself.

Any missteps will be magnified, especially given rising public anxiety over NHS waiting lists and access to services.
