Nearly 17 years ago, Heth & I re-mortgaged our house to start Bluemoose.
Publishing was becoming so risk averse they were missing out on great stories and writers.
In the last 4 years we have had 16 lit short listings of major prizes.
For those about to read, we thank you.
To the literary agent who said to me when I was a sales rep in London:
'And what do you do.' And when I told her replied.
'You mean you're not creative!' And walked off.
This is what I do.
Publish award winning books that sell around the world.
Hold a grudge?
You bet.
Holy Moly
We're a Winner!
Many thanks to our editors, Lin Web, Leonora Rustamova, Hetha Duffy, Annie Warren , Flora Rustamova.
All our authors and the most important people in publishing, the readers.

How to start an Indy publisher.
Work in Bakery. Pantomime with Les Dawson.Tudor Hall. Jigsaw factory. Burger King. Library supplier. Sales rep at Headline & other publishers. Get tired of orange headed celebrities publishing books. Re-mortgage house & start Bluemoose with Hetha.
The BIG books are becoming even bigger from
All the branded names.
Taking so much oxygen from the book world and shelf space in bookshops.
The landscape for smaller presses is being denuded.
But we will keep finding new writers & bring their stories to you.

From great new writers.
With stories to tell.
To find and publish new writers that were ignored
By London centric publishing.
Writers from working class backgrounds & older writers too.

Dear Big Publisher.
It is never a good look
When you try and take the credit for publishing
An award winning book.
Please reference who published it first.
17 years ago Hetha and I started Bluemoose to find great new writers and stories the mainstream publishers thought too risky.
To see
@MumblinDeafRo
books now being translated and published across the globe is just brilliant.
Leonard and Hungry Paul.
Panenka.
Ghost Mountain.
I have never seen trading conditions like these in the book world for 35 years.
Brexit disaster is horrendous for so many smaller presses.
We need your help.
If you’re able you can support us by buying some of our cracking books.

I've been in a bit of a fog recently.
Eric gone, great indie publishers closing down.
Ministers dissing the arts & creativity.
And then I started to read.
And you know what?
There are some BRILLIANT people out there creating work to lift the heaviest heart.
Cheers.

The London Book Fair is cancelled.
For small indies like us and others, it costs a lot, in time and money.
If you can it would be grand if you could buy a few books from our website or
@IndieBookshopUK
or
@Waterstones
or other indies too.
Thank you
We have just signed a contract that will enable us to continue to find, publish and develop new writers and their books for a long time...but there is always a payoff. Thank you to all our authors who continue to surprise with their talent and their work.

See you on 23rd.
A man from a very big a 'London' publisher contacted.
He wanted to ask about acquiring rights for a title.
I gave him a figure we would be interested in
He scoffed and chortled.
He was rude
I ended the call politely.
The next day he emailed and quadrupled his offer.
We said no.
We're a small Indie publisher but when we see our books short listed for major prizes it means so, so much.
It gives our books & authors a bit of the limelight.
And that is fantastic.
I AM NOT YOUR EVE
@devikaponna
Short listed & thank you
@waltscottprize
Bloody fantastic.
In 10 years
Our authors’ books have been
Short listed for 20 major literary prizes.
We’re not bank rolled by city publishing types.
We rely on brilliant booksellers and librarians to get our books into readers’ hands.
Not bad for an indie
