At the stroke of midnight, before I knew that this insanely generous review of "The Price You Pay for College" would drop 8 hours later, I snuck into the New York Times building for a special errand. I'd like to show you. Come along?

Scary stuff, this. Unrelatedly, this is a periodic reminder that I'm almost entirely over on 🧵🧵🧵 now. Same handle. Miss you all! Come over and play, higher ed and money twiXXer.
This administration is both importing voters and creating a national security threat from unvetted illegal immigrants. It is highly probable that the groundwork is being laid for something far worse than 9/11. Just a matter of time.

This is going to be so much fun, and I expect to learn a lot myself. Thanks @jselingo for putting it together.
At #NACAC23, join us for discussion w/@ronlieber @DeanSoule_UPenn @WhitneyGouche about transparency in admissions. Is more information always better? What data do applicants want colleges to disclose during the admissions process? What are the reasons colleges won't? @NACAC

It's going to be interesting to see how many students sign up for the new @NewCollegeofFL experience. Have y'all released any data about whether the number of apps for fall 2023 matriculants were up or down?.

With the Supreme Court’s decision to ban race-conscious admissions, the pressure is on selective colleges to end preferences for children of alumni.

There's a lot of talk about college essays all of the sudden. If you know anyone who wrote one this year about work, money or social class, I'd like to see it.

Can we please, finally, tell people what they'll pay for college before making them apply and wait for months for a price quote? My column, in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling on race-conscious admission.

“Most institutions, even if they wanted to, could not admit every qualified, low-income student that was in their pool. They don’t have the resources,” said Angel Pérez, chief executive of the National Association for College Admission Counseling.
After nine states banned race-conscious admissions, university administrators hoped to achieve diverse campuses through other means. It hasn’t worked out very well. via @WSJ.
