Even writers you do not like, read their work a second time, with kinder eyes. A book is always a labour of love, there's always something.

A formidable man — with all the potential for greatness, and the flaws, of his generation — he later served with distinction in the African Union. The Kenyan government has declared a period of national mourning, and I join my Kenyan friends in extending heartfelt condolences.

An iroko has indeed fallen. Saddened to hear of the passing of His Excellency Raila Odinga yesterday. A long-time power broker and a colossus in Kenyan politics, he served as Prime Minister in the government of national unity formed after the 2007–2008 post-election violence.

african conservatives make such a mockery of themselves with their pseudo-religious solidarity and fraternisation with white ethno-nationalists and racists who would lynch them at the first given chance.

Zoom in and see the indigenous, Arabic, and foreign elements, the vaunted walls and ceilings from local clay, the calligraphic prayers over the doors, the hanging fans and air conditioning. Kano is a preeminent traditional state in Nigeria.

None. Either of these is dangerous without the other. A loyal person who is incompetent would watch you make a mistake and cheer you on to your doom. A competent person who’s disloyal would serve their personal interests so well that you would not realise it until it is too late.
