And, you can't intend to reach your goals as an organization when you're not in sync Otherwise, you bark orders and blame your team when your goals aren't met Who do I blame, the captain of the ship It's time you steered your ship into calm waters and sunlit days ahead

Side note: Tech is changing so fast But, people are not Some of what I've learned over the years is just as relevant today as it was two decades ago Maybe even more so There are so many options and with that, even more confusion As leaders, you must guide with intention

I promise it works I've helped teams absolutely transform using the exact same process Of course I summarized it here But, even with just this summary, I guarantee that if you take it seriously, it will work for you

You'll thank yourselves for taking the time to walk the walk instead of just talk the talk Your team deserves a better Exec team Hold yourselves to a higher standard And, you'll soon reap the rewards

If you work to get aligned as an Exec Team, you can choose to focus on the ideal path that produces the intended results you originally created your organization to achieve You can best solve the 'customer job to be done' you're there to solve You can enjoy the process again

In recap, if your Exec Team isn't at least 40% in alignment on your Company Way, you can expect to have major problems, consistently... - People issues - Process issues - Customer issues - Partner issues - Exec team issues on the flip side...

So, how do you get your team to be in alignment? - Go back to the LIST you created - Tee up each issue - Discuss openly without org politics - Make decisions - When stuck, ask the head of your team to decide

Lastly, give your Exec Team an alignment score. If you're more than 40% in alignment across all areas, I'd love to hear that. BUT, be honest with yourselves and do NOT cheat. IMPORTANT - do not tell your exec team how this works before you do it, or it's not valid.

Now, make a LIST of all Red and Orange items - Each of these need to be solved for good - Briefly talk through as you list them out - Add additional issues to the list as you unpack them - You're not solving them right now, just list them

Once you've added everyone's steps, people, tools, and partners, see if you can highlight your optimal path in GREEN (this might be tough depending how messy your 'Company Way' is at this point)

Proceed to go one-by-one and continue sketching your new 'master' Company Way - Every time you have a discrepancy, circle it in RED - Every time there is a disagreement, circle it in RED - Any item that causes issues, circle it in ORANGE

At 10 minutes, you'll go to a whiteboard or virtual one - Tell everyone pencils down (no more edits!) - Ask for a volunteer to share their 'Company Way' - Have them explain it to you step-by-step - You'll sketch it out for all to see

Remember... This is the same team who demands excellence from your people and your partners So, it's not too much to ask that they are in sync in terms of how your business operates who they serve, and how they serve them best... right?

While they work... consider that all in the room should know your 'Company Way' intimately, right? They are your org's exec team... - they decide what is done, - when it's done, - who it's done by, - what success means, - what your culture is, - what you stand for...
