1. I'll tell you a story. It was the year 2018 and the time of Ramadan, in Minna. I was volunteering with a community group called SISTERS CLOSET, run by Barr. Zahida and a host of other wonderful females. We were called about a missing girl somewhere around Bosso.

If we’re mutual I can never join people to drag you, except if you committed a crime, then I can join them to call for justice! But TL dragging, you’ll not see me there tbh! You cannot join strangers to drag your mutual & expect them to keep kiki’ing with you.

Maybe we should be careful how we use the words “your feelings are valid”. Cos na mad tins many people dey feel now. Not all feelings are valid abeg. At some point, you have to learn to scrutinise your feelings and subject them to logic, abeg. No be every feeling make sense.

This is vexing me all over again. As a teacher, why are you so proud that you humiliated your student in front of the entire school? Was your goal to correct his behavior—or to shame him? How on earth did someone with this kind of character even become a teacher?

This is not true. It’s men who are in legislative and leadership rooms, and can advocate for friendlier parenting rights. It’s men who can demand that other men be present. Maraji is not your problem.
It’s people who think like Maraji that haven’t made paternity leave a norm in the work space. They give the woman 3 months and give the guy 1 week. As per “no be u born, resume work immediately”, when in fact, the woman actually needs the full help of her husband that period.

Maraji wasn’t dismissing men’s experiences. She even said it’s valid. For men who want to be checked in on when they become fathers, etc. There’s a better way to express your feelings without centering yourself in a situation where someone else’s body and life are on the line.

This isn’t in any way how to train kids. It was a perfect opportunity to sit him down and help him understand the depth of his wrongdoing—and the consequences he could face if you decided to report him. You could have used that moment to guide him toward better behavior and—

Wish I could spend the whole day with her. Nothing beats the honour of connecting with another person at a level where they trust you to ethically tell their stories.

What I didn't know I needed today? Hausa lessons from a 69 year old, 300 level student of Hausa and Arabic, who, since 1985, has been teaching women in her community to read and write in Hausa. Her motivation? She just wanted women to be able to write their names. Omo!
