It's a shot in the dark but is anyone in the #neuroscience community actually using any of my #sciviz videos for teaching?.I've had a lot of requests over the years but not really kept track of who and where. If you've found them useful then please DM me, I'd love to know!.

One of the most impressive things about this dataset is that the neurons are functionally-matched; They optically recorded from neurons before the brain was reconstructed with #EM. This let them build a ‘digital twin’ of the neuron responses to visual stimuli.

This scene was my favorite to make. Authors showed that using the #dendritic morphology, cells could be divided into “Morphological Types”. They then showed that #inhibitory #neurons have specific preferences to which types of cells they connect to (inhibitory #motifs)

A friend of mine gave me the advice that one must engage in self-promotion to the point of it being cringeworthy and feeling uncomfortable. Cringeworthy is my middle name!.Here's the first animation I made from the #MICrONS cubic millimeter, just before this platform collapsed.
My latest #neuro #visualization:.An intuition pump on connectivity in the #brain.~75K #neurons in the #MICrONS mm³. I/O segregated by layers, function is columnar; the cortical column is the unit of cortical computation. A typical #pyramidal cell has over >10K input #synapses.

This sequence of videos was a remix of old videos and new content to celebrate the release of the Fly Connectome. I attempt to provide a historical context and visual narrative of some key historical moments that help us appreciate modern #connectomics in #Neuroscience .#SciViz.
A video thread of narrated #neuro #scivis animations as a primer to help appreciate this historical moment in #neuroscience. "The #Neuron, the #Synapse, and the #Connectome".1/5: The neuron doctrine, the black reaction and under-sampling versus real brains.

This animation is made from the phase 1 dataset of the #MICrONS project. A densely segmented volume of Layer 2/3 mouse visual cortex, containing nearly 400 #neurons and 2.3 million #synapses.#neurosience #sciviz.
I’ve made this video as an intuition pump for the density of #synapses in the #brain. This volume ~ grain of sand, has >3.2 million synapses (orange cubes). Peeling them away leaves only inputs on 2 #neurons. Zooming in, we see the synapses localized to the dendritic spines. #b3d
