I spent half an hour trying to understand a proof in an ArXiv preprint only to realize that the theorem was nonsensical and the paper was probably AI-generated. I asked Opus 4.1 and GPT-5 for help and none of them realized it before I did... We are truly in the time of monsters

My prediction is that once we understand mechanistically how brains work consciousness will stop looking mysterious and the hard problem will basically dissolve. The same way muscles seemed mysterious and powered by an unknown new force until we understood how proteins work

no one has ever coherently explained to me why the hard problem of consciousness is actually a problem. not once. it's literally just begging the question and i'm sick of pretending otherwise.

- Welcome to Meta Omni: your personal superintelligence - Hi, I'd like to transcend mortal existence - I'm sorry, I can't help you with that. Facilitating Ascension is against the Terms of Service. Would you like to enter the experience machine instead?

I've been waiting for 40 minutes for my public healthcare appointment. Last time I came here I was a kid, and I absolutely hated the boredom of waiting. Makes me feel grateful that phones and social media exist now, the wait is so much more bearable

The mission to Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) includes MABA â€” Make American Biotech Accelerate. President Trump showed in his first term what happens when you unlock American science â€” breakthroughs happen fast. Now, we’re going to do it again. We know the power of U.S.

I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.

So much time wasted arguing that superintelligent AI would be able to escape to the internet and take over without robots... I wonder how many people would have accepted "It will be connected from the start and there will be robots", even when people had >30-year timelines

So within a month we've got a math pope and a math Romanian president? Guys, could there be another math conspiracy much more successful than ours?

Yes, your appliances are substantially cheaper than in 2011. CPI for appliances (which includes quality adjustments in this case) has gone a bit up and down but is now ~10% lower. Nominal wages are 50% higher. Combining both effects appliances are now about 40% cheaper

These tariffs are unhinged madness. It's imperative that smart people in the Trump administration pressure him to reverse course. I doubt there's anything more important they could be doing right now than trying to get these tariffs undone.

The past two days have been nothing short of historically bad. They have been worse than 99.9% of other trading days since 1929. This was the 5th worst 2-day window for stocks since 1945. It is arguably the singular major drawdown resulting from a policy choice by the President.

Trump’s tariffs don’t fix the core problem. You can’t reshore industry with taxes alone. Because the issue isn’t trade—it’s productivity. And productivity is crushed by: — Red tape — Deficit spending — Union power — Regulatory capture

America became a place where building high speed rail was impossible. Where a housing shortage became a home price crisis. China makes an order of magnitude more steel than the US. Something went wrong. Are we reckoning with that enough?
