It is my proudest professional moment to have been chosen to lead the
@AmCollSurgeons
in this new capacity. Dr. Hoyt has been an extraordinary leader, & we’ll work together to facilitate a smooth transition on Jan 1. I’m THRILLED to work on behalf of all surgeons & our patients.
We are pleased to announce
@pturnermd
has been selected to serve as the next ACS Executive Director. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Turner! More information to come soon.
I tweet this every year on Dr. King's birthday, and will continue to do so until health disparities are a distant memory.
"Of all forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane."
It’s my most significant professional accomplishment to have been chosen to lead the

Surgeons’ entire lane is reducing preventable death. The
@AmCollSurgeons
is on the forefront of developing balanced policy to reduce firearm deaths with significant input from those who own firearms and those who do not. We met with your leadership,
@NRA
. Have you forgotten?
Someone should tell self-important anti-gun doctors to stay in their lane. Half of the articles in Annals of Internal Medicine are pushing for gun control. Most upsetting, however, the medical community seems to have consulted NO ONE but themselves.
So honored to be inducted today as a Member of the American Surgical Association. I’m even more pleased because so many friends & colleagues were also inducted today, while other friends & colleagues were so instrumental in supporting my application.

Flattering the curve so we don’t overwhelm the infrastructure. This is exactly the metaphor I’ve been using to explain the rationale for so many cancellations.
Surgeons and other health care workers must have access to PPE, and be able to speak freely, without fear of retribution, as they seek to find a solution to accessing PPE.

No surgeon ever wants to disappoint her patients. We take our promises very seriously. These delays and cancellations are honestly for the greater good, and each decision is undertaken thoughtfully and individually.
Every patient getting frustrating news that their elective surgery is postponed should know it was their surgeon - not an admin or bureaucrat - that made the final call. You should have the peace of mind knowing I reviewed your case and said it was ok.
This is the real PLT again. I've been furiously deleting bots for days, & have thousands more to go. The hacker blocked many of my followers/deleted those I was following, & replaced them with bots. If I used to follow you or you used to follow me, we may have to re-establish...

We are pleased that there appears to be motion on the firearms issue. This is a first step to addressing this public health crisis. Surgeons are on the front lines caring for these patients, and are leading the call for actionable interventions.
We give our support to the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (S. 2938) being considered in the Senate today. It’s the first significant legislation in nearly 30 years to address firearm violence, an important step to making our communities safer.
