Adding noise before some nonlinearities helps preserve information. We found this also in statistical models for electronics :-) Our sawtooth model and how noise makes or breaks the game:

In this paper, we analyze the two-node joint clock synchronization and ranging problem. We focus on the case of nodes that employ time-to-digital converters to determine the range between them...

Just learned: Adding randomness before quantization helps! One-bit quantization of X is sign(X). If |X|≤c then it's better to store sign(X+Y) where Y is uniformly distributed on [-c,c]! Why? We still have E[X] = E[c*sign(X+Y)] 1/n https://t.co/W6VmZaVtwi

Delightful 😠 I've had enough of big-name scientists leveraging their fame to exploit others. Is science well served by one dude taking 30 postdoc salaries from the funding ecosystem & producing a few high-tier papers/year? Leaving human wreckage in his wake?

How robust are the solutions to ℓp -regularized linear inverse problems? For p=1.5, they live in the set in the picture, did you know? Read on to find out more.

Dear friends and colleagues, This is a call for international conference organizers to think twice before organizing any conference in Western Europe/North America, where many academics from the Global South (GS) need a visa to enter. (1)
