I didn’t expect to ever say this but this was a fascinating read about PDFs. and how design choices Adobe made in the 90s made PDFs printable, not machine readable — now they have become a bottleneck for AI . instead of fixing the problem, an expensive industry of computer vision.

There’s no such thing as a rich but energy poor country.

It takes UK infra projects on average 8.5 years just to get through planning — meanwhile the world changes, politics changes, technology changes, workforces change and your plans are outdated before you even start . Across Europe, hundreds of billions are wasted in added project.

🏭 This is an excellent thread on one of the biggest industrial dramas playing out in Europe at the moment — the country that invented mass steel manufacturing is days away from losing the capacity to make it. The UK only has two active blast furnaces for primary steel production.
