Both species have a unique # of chromosomes, so karyotyping is a possibility? But in today's age of DNA barcoding, I'm wondering if there's an easier method. My experience lies in field ecology, I wasn't planning on running any genetic analyses for my thesis, but here we are!.

There are morphological methods for IDing one species from another but apparently this application is limited:

Grassland folks, I need your help. I've heard from several different people that Rough Fescue grasses can live to be *hundreds* of years old. This is shared like it's common knowledge, but I can't actually track down any sources for this claim. (1/2).

I got heat exhaustion nearly every day I was in the field this summer. I've been working manual labour jobs outdoors for the last 9 years and this season nearly killed me. It's nuts.
