Today would have been Carl Sagan's 90th birthday. He wrote this in 1995. Carl was absolutely right. #CarlSaganDay

student loan debt, a useful proxy for share of university cost born by the student & their families, has been increasing dramatically for 25 years—it's a consequence of the victory of property owners over education in competition for diminishing state budgets

1/5 We feared they would try to subvert the election. It's worse: They didn't need to. We asked how, given his obvious unfitness & fascism, the election could be close. But it wasn't even close. We deplored the injustice of the electoral college. But he won the popular vote, too.

White Democrats, Black folks can’t save you from yourselves—so stop expecting it. And stop using Black men as the scapegoat. FACT: White men and women determined the greatest impact in the 2024 election.

The apparent election victory of Donald Trump, has consequences for the world, that I'm sure, very few people, have ever thought of. The world has just been sent, in an incredibly dangerous direction. 1/🧵

People who say this election could be the "end of democracy" are so extra... Or maybe they know the TRUE history of the election-denying white supremacist who led a violent insurrection, overturned a presidential election and ended democracy in America. A thread

I will never blame Kamala Harris for what Israel is doing to Gaza when Netanyahu has been in direct talks with Trump about not ending the war.

Here's the Washington Post's front page on January 7, 2021. Four years later, the paper, famous for its tagline "Democracy Dies in Darkness," doesn't want to take a stand on who is fit to be president.

@AsheeshKSi I mean that’s part of it. But even popular majors get starved and admins disparage fields and programs they don’t like. There’s no meaningful faculty governance at all when your deans office is like the ass dean Twitter account.

Despite the many problems with the Electoral College, an embarrassing number of Americans continue to defend it—as a protector of rural interests and small states, as a counter to the power of coastal elites. Here @ElieNYC dismantles the myths.

Rashid Khalidi is retiring from @Columbia “I have been both disgusted and horrified by the way higher education has developed into a cash register… a money-making, MBA, lawyer-run, hedge fund-cum-real estate operation, with a minor sideline in education” https://t.co/MeUaukuq1R
