Europe Builds. Others Profit. 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) is the perfect case study. It reflects both Europe’s brilliance and its chronic inability to turn that brilliance into business. Almost everything that made 3DGS possible was born in Europe. From the early breakthroughs

Is it an illusion, or is phone signal esp data much worse when sat on a train (UK)? is it just that there's poor coverage near cross country lines (vs in stations), or is it that I'm sat in a metal tube?

Oxford had a talented group make a video about the #dinosaur tracks in oxfordshire this summer. Birmingham also had a talented group make a video. I made the video for our group. With cheesy music: https://t.co/GPflJRMOLA

I'm building Radiotron, a medical image segmentation and visualization software with performance in mind. Features are not set in stone, so let me know if you'd like to see something implemented before you can start using it.

Autodesk are cheeky sods. I don't need flow connect, I don't want it running even if it doesn't really take any resources, yet I have to dig down and use niche software just to stop it starting with windows. The sooner more people get away from Maya the better.

Hot take - Using both regularly, I actually think Windows is in a better place right now than MacOS.

I say the videos on my YouTube animals in motion playlist are for research and reference, but sometimes they're for fun too. Here's an 8 week old kitten playing, at full speed and slow motion https://t.co/Rmbew3sfKp

That could very well be that I've been forced to use a 13" macbook pro. But I think it's also the dock/menu bar combo that takes away the top and bottom of the screen (even with autohide dock). Dunno.

There's something about MacOS that doesn't gel with me, which is odd because I love eye candy in my OSs. Having spent some serious time with MacOS over the past few days, I'd describe it as feeling really cramped, and that it's harder to arrange windows as easily as on Windows.

The new focus stack + pixel shift on the new @UKNikon Z8 firmware is awesome! Those numbers are mm. 25 focus positions, with 32 pixel shift images at each position, totaling 64GB of RAW images before merge and stack. Nikkor MC 105mm.

I was one of the 16 devs in this study. I wanted to speak on my opinions about the causes and mitigation strategies for dev slowdown. I'll say as a "why listen to you?" hook that I experienced a -38% AI-speedup on my assigned issues. I think transparency helps the community.

We ran a randomized controlled trial to see how much AI coding tools speed up experienced open-source developers. The results surprised us: Developers thought they were 20% faster with AI tools, but they were actually 19% slower when they had access to AI than when they didn't.

I think cases of LLM-overuse can happen because it's easy to optimize for perceived enjoyment rather than time-to-solution while working. Me pressing tab in cursor for 5 hours instead of debugging for 1:
