The 66% wedge An employee on €42k gets a 5% raise of €2k It costs the employer ~€2.3k (PRSI + auto-enrol). The employee nets ~€960. To pay for it, prices rise. With 23% VAT, every €1 the business needs costs consumers €1.23. So €2.3k net requires €2,829 at the till.

Hospitality is still one of the largest employers in the country. There’s the lack of staff accommodation to recruit when the season kicks in. 🙄
