This is a great example of why scaling data and compute beats injecting human priors into the system. Real world is too messy to be bounded by well defined rules

I've been asked what's the biggest thing in 2024 other than LLMs. It's Robotics. Period. We are ~3 years away from the ChatGPT moment for physical AI agents. We've been cursed by the Moravec's paradox for too long, which is the counter-intuitive phenomenon that "tasks that humans…

This ! It is morally incorrect to hold back a better product - especially when it’s safer. If it were for biased media / decels, we’d still be riding around on horses

Trying to deny consumers access to a technology that makes them 10x better drivers—or gin up opposition to the same—is immoral. Even at the current state of the technology, if every driven mile in the US were FSD-facilitated, 40,000+ deaths could be avoided.

Stating the obvious: When churning through experiments, continue playing with variants of your model extensively, even if they aren’t SOTA on metrics. 90% success on a metric doesn’t mean much if you haven’t intuitively mapped it to real world performance.

@ericjang11 @jeffcardn Yeah it’s the same story as cost of low volume prototype vs high volume production vehicle. Once we make them useful enough, choose hardware components with manufacturing efficiency in mind, and deploy them at scale, economies of scale will do its magic

Aligning large teams of humans is often harder than aligning the models they’re building. Set the wrong incentives and you’ll likely see reward hacking. Sparse rewards and slow feedback loop can mask failures until they’ve compounded over days, even weeks!

Optimizing for compute per watt attacks both of these limitations. Innovations required to build highly capable models for embodied AI (eg. Tesla FSD) running on the edge will naturally translate to rest of the domains.
