Drew’s portraits don't depict people; they're only meant to negate Australia’s historic self-understanding. “Aussie” is here both a racial slur & "meaningless". HRR’s portraits unlike Drew’s are not anonymous; they belong to the here and now, not to the decolonial illud tempus.

Average person takes the path of least resistance anywhere. On the other side you can see Western expats abroad who can barely even speak a word of the national local language after living there 10 years. Proved by seeing reactions of people after you've made any real effort.
I'd bet the rise in connectivity (everyone has a smartphone with video phone capabilities and so does their cousins in the old country) mean that integration is more or less impossible at this point, or that it at least requires a dedicated effort by the immigrant itself.
