Was expecting mathematical symbols made of donuts, so I am pleasantly surprised to see mathematical patterns themselves! #dallemini #iteachmath

Which schools benefit most from the proposal to lower class size caps in NYC?. A snapshot of elementary schools in 4 NYC districts:. * 21 = proposed avg. cap for elem. classes.* darker dot = higher pass rate on state test (4th grade math).* left to right = decreasing affluence

As co-director of undergraduate studies at @harvard CS, this is highly misleading. Do not confuse minimum admission requirements with advice to students. These courses are not all equal, *especially* if you intend to concentrate in quantitative fields including data science.

New question:. Harvard says "It's ok, you can take calc freshman year!".What should they do to support & retain STEM majors who did not have calc & other advanced/extracurricular STEM opportunities in HS?. (Note: ~7% at H did not take calc in HS.~15% applied as Humanities majors).

@Harvard Communicating really important admissions policies regarding high school maths courses. They want conceptual understanding & mathematical reasoning to make sense of the world. Data science, CS, Stats, & Calculus all regarded as equal.

A mini-story, translated from .Contes liquides, Jaime Montestrela and Hervé Le Tellier. A #math question: How long would it take to "count" to 80,000,007,002, in alphabetical order?

Interesting questions about Harvard's statement addressing "Is there a specific math requirement?".

@oneplusepsilon @gautiersue @Harvard Do you think this is just disingenuous or actually harmful or both? Harvard is going to accept whoever they accept. Ultimately one small school cannot really change things. But it’s nice to hear them say “you can take calculus freshman year”. Isn’t that a positive?.
