Human remains believed to date from the 19th century have been uncovered by archaeologists on the site of the old Limerick jail near King John's Castle in Limerick city.

The remains of 36 individuals have been uncovered during archaeological works at Merchants Quay Limerick. Some of the burials may be of those executed during #Limerick Gaol operations 1813-1904. Also uncovered an iron grille to prevent prisoner escape #Shawshank prison style.
