I was recently cleaning out my grandmother’s closet when I discovered her translated copy of @minjinlee11’s Pachinko. My grandmother only speaks Korean. I understand most, but speak at a second grade level, at best. (1/3)

So moved by @LiquorDreamsMov. @ssoyunum tells the story of two Korean-American families in such a beautiful and nuanced way. Highly recommend that you add it to your queue, esp if you enjoyed @minjinlee11’s Pachinko as much as I did.

If any of these ring true, then check out More Right Than Wrong https://t.co/ajY2ZOO5vf Because without clear right answers, you have to hope you are more right than wrong. Or less wrong than right. You get it.

Modern Workplace Paradox #4: Be a working mom but make sure you don’t work too much or mom too much. How much is too much? It’s called “balance.”

Modern Workplace Paradox #3: Be a strong leader - as long as you’re not standoffish or intimidating. And don’t forget to be vulnerable. But not too vulnerable, because then you look weak, and not strong.

Modern Workplace Paradox #2: Lead with a confident vision. Until you get feedback from your manager, your colleagues, and your customers. Then listen and iterate.

It was one of the most memorable interactions I’ve ever had with my 90yo grandmother - who I am really close with. It was remarkable how a piece of literature could bridge language and time — enough to add another dimension to a lifelong relationship. (3/3)

This discovery sparked a lengthy discussion that involved broken Korean, lots of hand gestures, laughing and tears. It was the first meaningful conversation that I ever had with her that didn’t involve school, work, or my kids. (2/3)

“I really enjoy changing my mind because I enjoy being surprised. And I enjoyed being surprised because I feel I’m learning something.” — Daniel Kahneman on @AdamMGrant new podcast. Love this framing. Growing > being right.

At my grandfather's funeral, Korean elder said my eulogy "would've been better if there hadn't been so many tears." Idea that too much emotion = bad is holding us back. Anger, sadness, joy can bring change. We should be vocal & proud like @minjinlee11 @IamSandraOh.

After 9 months of Zoom calls, finally met the lovely @jiunkimm in person. This week reminds us why her #DiversityandInclusion work is so important. Sad we don’t work together any more but excited to witness the impact she’ll have on mental health at @quartethealth.
