Super clear and informative thread from the brilliant @beth_stratford, comprehensively debunking the arguments against rent controls (and the idea that house building will be enough to make homes affordable).
Many MPs urged gov't to include rent controls in Renters Rights Bill last week (see .But @mtpennycook & @AngelaRayner argued rent controls wld reduce supply of homes. Shortš§µw/ data to show this risk is small & can be mitigated, and benefits outweigh costs

I was asked to write a short piece for @RenewalJournal on whether @UKLabour can be transformative. I decided to skip my usual rant on ownership and instead unpack the Starmerites' claims to be the "realists" in politics. First journal article in 2yrs so thoughts welcome!.
In the new issue of Renewal, @oeufling argues that Labour should embrace a radical pragmatism in its environmental policies and overall programme. Free to read:

I don't have any wise words right now about what is happening and feel pretty helpless being stuck at home with chronic fatigue - grateful to all those out on the streets and helping rebuild and clean up - but this feels deeply true to me. And something we can all do.
Wherever you are, building community and connection is key. Our isolated, compartmented lives will not keep us safe, and we will not be able to draw on each others love, creativity and courage unless we are coming together to resist, strategise, build power & move together.

I've been reflecting a lot lately on who gets to define reality and how that constrains what we see or believe is possible - so this work on collective imagination by my colleagues at @jrf_uk feels so important . esp. when the political discourse feels so bleak and limiting. š.

This new @jrf_uk research is just heartbreaking - and such an indictment of our politics that we are in the middle of an election campaign where this is barely even being talked about.
š£ļø Britainās public services are staggering under the weight of hardship as primary schools and primary healthcare divert their resources to the needs of those struggling to afford the essentials. Our report shows the impact of hardship on primary schools and primary healthcareš§µ
