I think the thing that really enthralled the boomers to the television is that shows and films got really good in the 70s.

What chapter of The Prince advises you to show your enemy that you are a paper tiger immediately the second they test your resolve?

I don't think there's a worse message to send your troops than, "We won't protect you, we won't let you protect yourself, and we won't do anything about it if they kill you."
Breaking. Trump admin senior official tortured to death on 4k livestream by undocumented alien in front of Antifa banner while proudly chanting "we are a terrorist organization!" Trump to issue "stern statement of disapproval." JD Vance penning a strongly word tweet.

Not sure if this is always true. Sex dolls differ from women in ways that negatively affect the sexual experience. There are definitely women out there where I would absolutely fuck a 100% lifelike robotic copy that could not make conversation.
I do not believe in objectification. Being sexually attracted to someone does not imply seeing them as an object. If it did, sex dolls (actual objects) would be as popular as actual sex. This is just feminists noticing that male sexuality is visual and giving it a negative label

I tend to frame all my arguments in terms of the benefits accrued to everyone from milquetoast liberal industrialism because it's the right riposte against favelaworld rent-seeking, not because it's my theoretically ideal society.

I often think about that Mikka post that went like "If modern economists were sent to advise Meiji era Japan they'd just suggest specializing in rice exports."
The sorry state of international development in the 21st century is proof that 21st century economists suck. The best performing country is Marxist for God's sake.

Hundreds of millions of Americans went to public school with a proverbial Michael Brown. We sat in home room and chemistry with a dude who, if we heard he’d shoplifted and then tried to steal a gun from a cop who flagged him down for blocking traffic, we’d be like ‘That scans.’

This is true, and if you stay nearby to get those benefits it ends up costing you like $30,000 yearly in opportunity cost anyway.
We’re too hard on the couple who “struggles to get by” on 120k, they probably moved across the country for a job in a niche field and lost access to grandma’s help with the kids and grandpa’s help with the leaky faucet and the check engine light

This reply should be given to like 50% of all twitter discourse.
Again, I don't believe that you should be dictating to others what course to take in life based on your sentiments or emotions when you are not accountable for the consequences. That's very arrogant, and it would be irresponsible for anyone to accept it.

Just finished the game (24hr playtime). Kinda rushed it at the end, didn't finish all the side missions. The moral seems to be, "Even in a crisis, remember that God is always watching."
Got Prey (2017) on sale for $8. I'm completely addicted to this game. It's like the best parts of Bioshock meet the best parts of Deus Ex. I'm happy I never got into it earlier, because it feels like the last good game I'm going to find for a long time.

Honestly one of the biggest failures of empathy is putting yourself in the place of someone committing a crime and not realizing you'd have to be a selfish scumbag in order to do something like that.
@elisaslow Empathy doesn't mean that there should be no consequences for bad and illegal actions. But empathy does mean that you can try to put yourself in another person's shoes - someone who wasn't born as lucky as you, who had fewer options and opportunities. Empathy doesn't mean

I want a globalization where white women can vacation in Somalia because their country is stable enough to receive the benefits of int'l trade. Instead we suffer the consequences of refusing to do what it takes to make those countries stable enough for int'l trade.

The reason we failed to do this is because we simply failed to maintain the basic institutions America herself relied on to achieve prosperity. By the time we were global hegemon we were already infested with too many parasites to be effective stewards.

Mass immigration is largely due to the US abnegating the massive economic, political, and military power they had instead of forcing every country to abide by basic rule of law and third-party contract enforcement and thereby enabling them all to become rich and prosperous.

Taking advantage of someone who trusts you (even implicitly) is actually really easy and does not indicate high intelligence or effective coordination.

This is going to be America too when the boomers retire.
@pilesofskulls Much lower ceiling on organizational complexity when you can't trust anyone outside of blood relations.

(This is the sense in which school is biased in favor of girls, who get better grades than boys but do not learn more.)
