Great news: A Stanton resident detained at their ICE check-in at 34 Civic Center Plaza is now free! Though they were taken across state lines to Arizona, our team met their loved one just in time to connect her with the resources and support to have a successful bond hearing.

Happy May Day to all—except ICE, DHS, Border Patrol, other immigration enforcement agencies, and police/sheriff unions. Your jobs oppress other workers. Shame on your cruelty, your will to control, and your role in dividing and harming our communities.

This morning we held an ICE Watch in La Habra after a family reached out about an encounter with ICE last week. Because they knew their rights, they were able to stay together. In a city where nearly 25% of residents are foreign-born, knowing your rights makes all the difference.

Day 62 of the first 100 days: Right-wing populism drifts towards authoritarianism, disrupting local economies, criminalizing communities through narratives & ICE, and eroding trust in local governments. Networks of trust are crucial now.

Happy Gideon Day to our local public defenders! In this critical moment, as many work tirelessly to secure immigration-safe deals to protect our community members from devastating consequences—especially under the Trump administration and in the wake of Prop 36—we see you!

And it’s working—calls are coming in from places that have long been in the dark, and people are telling us they feel safer carrying their red cards. But we need your support to keep this lifeline going. So far, we’ve spent $3,800 on these critical resources.

"A private prison operator regularly falsified documents during federal inspections of a migrant detention facility in New Mexico to cover up chronic understaffing and other shortcomings." ICE detention cruel, unnecessary, and unaccountable. https://t.co/cNtrDUouD9

Homeland Security’s inspector general had previously urged the immediate removal of detainees from the facility due to “critical staffing shortages.”

Respectfully, I’m am and will continue to be in disagreement with Gov. Newsom and the double punishment of non-citizens who have served their time and met parole. There are incarcerated fighters who have been, and are being double punished.

In 2023, California's Democratic-led Legislature decisively sent Gov. Newsom a bill to limit the CA prison system's ability to cooperate with ICE. The governor today basically said a similar proposal is dead on arrival if CALeg tries to do it again. https://t.co/5djtjnXvMg

.@GavinNewsom so you’re ok with ICE separating families and potentially taking Californians to GUANTANAMO? Without so much as a warrant signed by a judge? This is a time that calls for strength and courage. 1/

Newsom is standing by California's “sanctuary” law but has vowed to veto a Dem-led bill that would limit state prison officials’ cooperation with federal immigration agents just as Trump promises mass deportations. https://t.co/oPIsx0flqT

We have sown good political will and expanded our community defense through the growth of our ICE Watcher program, our pro bono attorney network, and by democratizing the defense against deportation.
