9/ People who served their time for convictions decades ago are a vital part of our communities: beloved parents, mentors, care-takers, neighbors, & community leaders. This includes folks who served as incarcerated firefighters, as @ReichlinMelnick noted
ICE's "public safety" narrative often collapses after scrutiny:. The guy on the left was a prison firefighter, a job not available to safety threats. He was granted bond from ICE detention in 2022. Similarly, the man on the right was paroled by CA in 2022 for good behavior.

8/ We’re talking about people who’ve SERVED THEIR TIME, earned their release, and are eager to contribute to our communities. This includes permanent residents who also face deportation under harsh federal laws.

7/ Due process is STILL the missing link now. CA’s state prisons are using our tax dollars to turn people over to ICE without a warrant. This is often based on rampant racial profiling :

ICE's actions are a heinous abuse of power. We stand with David Huerta, with our siblings in the labor movement, and with every Californian abducted by ICE!.
Let’s be clear: ICE injured and detained the president of SEIU California for peacefully observing. ICE picked the wrong side. The wrong state. The wrong person. and the wrong union. David Huerta stood up. And 750,000 SEIU workers are standing with him.

U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli says "Operation Guardian Angel" allows federal authorities to enter jails to make arrests. Gov. Gavin Newsom's office says state law already allows this.
