Super grateful for @ashikaforaustin and the campaign she and her team ran—it came down to a ~500 vote margin in a district with ~41,000 voters. That’s almost exactly 50% of the district in support of her agenda. She and her team should be super proud. I know I am.
I couldn’t be more proud of this campaign. It was an incredibly close race. The results aren’t what we hoped for, but the work is just beginning. We will continue to fight for an Austin that works for everyone.

Thread. And congrats on your election to the US Senate, @AndyKimNJ.
In 2020 I was one of 7 dems that won a district that Trump won, so I held a series of listening sessions with people who voted for Trump and voted for me to understand their actions. I reread the transcripts yesterday and much of it felt like it could have been said today. THREAD

The faculty at the school I’m poll greeting at noticed I hadn’t had lunch and they’ve been bringing me snacks. A poll worker let me borrow his phone charger. Elections *can* and should be and usually are a reminder that people are actually pretty great. #Election2024

20% of the people that talk to me want to talk about the election and 80% of the people that talk to me want to talk about the Grateful Dead hat and the @deadandcompany shows I’ve been to, which eventually allows me to talk to them about their choices in this election. 💀🌹⚡️.

My friend Zach is amazing & the replies to this tweet are unhinged. I left the GOP in my twenties—evangelicalism, too—largely because it felt like a movement that would eventually embrace power and money over people. Keep preaching Jesus’ love, Zach. I’m with you on all of this.
