Awesome thread about dopamine and its role in reinforcement learning. One of the most surprising findings in the study of dopamine: It spikes when you anticipate something pleasurable. Not when you get it - just before you do. ๐คฏ
If dopamine = pleasure... Then why does chocolate still taste good when itโs blocked? Because dopamine isnโt about liking. Itโs about wanting and learning. Letโs rewire how we think about the world's most popular neurochemical ๐งต

๐ In this trial (RT = 458 ms), how should we count fixations and compute total fixation duration on the target image? Whatโs the most correct way for these three cases? Curious how others handle this in their analyses! #EyeTracking #Methods #OpenScience #psychology

Thrilled to see this study officially published in @eLife. Link here: https://t.co/OMRuvd64LI and ๐งต below. Huge thanks to Dr. Emily Adamic @EmilyAdamic, believe it or not, this study was a small part of her overall PhD thesis!

Asymmetric activation of the dysgranular mid-insula during interoceptive processing contributes to disrupted bodily awareness in individuals with anxiety, depression, and eating disorders.
Interoception relies upon the bidirectional trafficking of brain-body signals. But where in the brain do these two information streams meet? Our latest study localized this interaction for cardiorespiratory sensation and examined how it might differ across psychiatric disorders

Huge congratulations to @apiejka on successfully defending her PhD thesis, which explores the connections between loneliness, cognition, and parasympathetic activity. We couldnโt be prouder-your work truly bridges minds and hearts. Weโre excited to see the impact youโll make! ๐

As an empathy researcher, I have been frustrated for a long time by the jumble of definitions we use, which is preventing progress. Grateful to the authors for taking this important step, and will GLADLY go with these definitions moving forward.
"Theory of mind" "Mentalization" "Cognitive empathy" and so on. These are all important concepts, but the terminology on mental state attribution is inconsistent. This paper makes useful recommendations. Defining key concepts for mental state attribution https://t.co/NJLHoM20wh

Three months ago there were 36 hospitals in Gaza. This morning there are none. Zero. All have been bombed by Israel. The same country that claimed at the International Court of Justice that they would never attack a hospital.

The Netanyahu regime now pulling off the rare feat of violating both the Geneva Conventions and the Vienna Conventionโat the same time. You're living through history, folks.
This morning began with the revelation of Israelโs gruesome Shifa Hospital massacre. A few hours later, Israel bombed a diplomatic compound - an embassy - in Syria. Tonight it has murdered several foreign aid workers in an airstrike on their car in Gaza.
