Politicians who later become congressional leaders trade stocks like everyone else ... until they ascend to power. After ascension, their portfolios beat peers by 47 (!!!) percentage points a year through trades timed around bills and firms that later get government contracts.

Interesting: If you have spare change, soon you'll no longer be able to use it to pay for parking at D.C. meters. @DDOTDC is looking for a contractor to do last sweeps of coin-operated meters and cover up the coin slots in up to 5,100 meters around the city.

I co-authored an op-ed @Parlimag , advocating friendshoring in shipbuilding.
As the US deepens naval ties with Japan, South Korea and Australia, Europe risks being left out. In an op-ed, @tongfi_kim, Carolin Liss and Christoph Lhotka argue that friendshoring with Japan and South Korea — starting with shipbuilding — is the way to stay relevant.

When federal agents shoot people in D.C., there are few details — and little accountability. @maustermuhle reports, with support from @spotlight4dc:

D.C. police officers are held to one standard, federal agents another.

AI presents a fundamental threat to our ability to use polls to assess public opinion. Bad actors who are able to infiltrate panels can flip close election polls for less than the cost of a Starbucks coffee. Models will also infer and confirm hypotheses in experiments. Current
