NI is so far behind the U.K. and Europe but we deserve better

Ofc @paulgivan. If it doesn’t affect you it’s not worth doing eh. Losing predominantly women in the workforce is a blow to the NI economy. Think long term
Education Minister Paul Givan has confirmed that it will be "a number of years" before a childcare strategy is in place in Northern Ireland. https://t.co/l41DTTL6Kr

The murder of Mary Ward is another disturbing case of failure to tackle domestic violence against women. Possible similarities between the police response to this & Katie Simpson is concerning. The police referring themselves to PONI is significant but is key in accountability

I have asked the government if NI is one of the sites for this and if not, if patients in NI can still be included in this. It always feels that Northern Ireland is an afterthought in everything.

Northern Ireland is a dangerous place to live if you are a woman. Sexual crimes, femicide, verbal and physical abuse. Education plays a part in ending violence against women and girls but so does punishment - we have simply not got the balance right.

Mary Ward, 22, was found dead by police officers at her home in Belfast on 1 October.

34 years teaching and have NEVER had a class where students were glued to their phones… my job to get them to put phones away and they do. Norma? This is codswallop … and you know it. This will change none of the issues for teens due to mobile phones.. nothing.
My op-ed today in @thejournal_ie about why I am providing funding to secondary schools for mobile phone pouches or other storage solutions so that students are no longer glued to their phones during the school day. https://t.co/aeNmLK8hyc

Long overdue
A new enhanced drug needle exchange has opened in Belfast City Centre, where people who inject drugs such as heroin or cocaine can safely dispose of used needles, receive clean needles and access health services. https://t.co/DT37OLNWZ7

Such a joke in Belfast. Where are the traffic wardens and why do none of them work on a Sunday too. People walking and the disabled are second to cars in this city
Current scenes in Holylands, South Belfast: This is a few doors up from my house. When houses with front doors leading directly to the pavement (like mine) this is unacceptable How can my (or any) family safely walk, run or play without having to be forced into the road?? 😡😡

So far, @JohnODowdSF has announced a road scheme for the A1 costing almost £150Million. That is HALF of what it will cost to connect Belfast International Airport to the railway network. Mentions of rail remains to be seen. #RebuildOurRailways #Infrastructure #Stormont #Debate

"Northern Ireland currently has notably higher levels of car use than neighboring regions: 80% of journeys there are by car, as opposed to 63% in the rest of the UK and 50% in the Republic of Ireland."
A new central station in Belfast will remake public transit in Northern Ireland, one of the UK's most car-dependent regions

@LuvFB_HateFifa @JP_Biz Food prices are higher in NI than all other UK regions, bar one (South East England).

Powerful work by @taramillstv showing the heartbreaking reality for families in NI caring for children with severe learning difficulties. Our creaking health system offers no respite & minimal support. Parents are exhausted, isolated, and struggling to cope.
"Our son is getting stronger and I'm not sure we're ready." Four fathers of children with severe learning difficulties tell @BBCSpotlightNI about the physical challenges they face. https://t.co/lKECEuo2ec

Post-Covid optimism #buildbetterBelfast is fading. Streets Ahead - launched 20 years ago - is Streets Behind. Bolder Vision - launched 3 years ago - risks becoming Older Vision. North-South Glider not progressing. We can't even sort out Hill St. We need a plan for delivery.

I find this comment from @JohnODowdSF to be rather callous, claiming that the 'British Government' are to blame for underfunding. Just the other day, O'Dowd's DFI announced an unnecessary £3Million+ road resurfacing scheme in North Belfast. Do you know how cheap bollards are?
Plans to pedestrianise Hill Street in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter have been "put on hold". Stormont's infrastructure minister John O'Dowd blamed delays on "competing work priorities" and "underfunding and austerity by the British government". https://t.co/3PyLgqSyXg

Belfast? Thoughts
Public transport - which is what most people use to get into the city - is much faster, and footfall is up. We're making a city for people, not cars. https://t.co/GwmRtjoPyo

More crap chicken huts from America. Seriously why can’t we entice better than this. There’s so many restaurants across the U.K. and Europe that we don’t have and would be way better than this. Here’s looking at you @HawksmoorTweets @Dishoom etc
Chick-fil-A to open in Northern Ireland! 😀 It was great to engage with the company and have the confirmation this morning that Northern Ireland is part of the first wave of UK restaurants 🍗🐔
