After two years of badly-taken selfies and poorly-cropped photos, it's almost election day. But don't worry, there's still time to donate to my campaign!
What's happening in Roscrea is racism, pure and simple.
If you try to justify it by talking about "valid concerns", you're justifying racism, nothing more.
People with "valid concerns" don't put on balaclavas and scream abuse at women and children.
So obvious when you realise, but today I learned that
@LightHouseD7
was originally designed as a car park, and that's why it's full of ramps and different levels.

Coming home from Tullamore today, there was a 10k section of the M4 where the speed limit was 60 because the road was being resurfaced.
So I had ten minutes of cars passing me at 100. Limits are routinely ignored in Ireland, because they're only enforced on special occasions.

Inheritance tax is a tax on unearned income. The "people who worked hard all their lives" have died. The people paying inheritance tax didn't work for that money. The money raised in tax can help those who were less lucky with their parents.
Parents who work hard all of their lives and pay significant taxes on their earnings should not be subjected to additional taxes when choosing to support their children in whatever way they see fit. There’s no justice in this proposal and it won’t be supported.
In 2019 elections, the number of Green councillors went from 3 to 10. So far they have pedestrianised South William Street, Drury Street, Capel Street, Duke Street. On the way are Liffey Street, Parliament Street, College Green, and Dame Street.
The person of interest in today’s stabbing attack in Dublin, which left a five year old child in a serious condition, is an Algerian national, Gardai believe.

"Sure, we make Direct Provision as horrible as possible because we are terrified of 'attracting' people, and we deny citizenship to people who have lived here their whole lives, but we do NOT go out and murder people in the streets, and for that we should be applauded!"
The reason for the increase in bus ridership is simple:
@greenparty_ie
is in government.
- 20% reduction in fares
- 50% reduction for young people
- Huge expansion of bus services outside Dublin
#GreenEffect
In 1989, the government was aware that smog in Dublin was killing people, and they had a solution -
Dublin corporation started a pilot program in Ballyfermot to replace fireplaces with central heating....
The last time I saw kids playing on the street outside my house was when we closed the street to traffic. As soon as we reopened the street, and cars started driving down it, the kids had to stop.
@DubCityCouncil
Seriously, if you are annoyed enough to comment here or retweet, you are annoyed enough to write to your local councillors and tell them to make the pedestrianisation permanent. Do it now!
People say the Greens are obsessed with cycle lanes. The real question is, why do politicians from other parties regularly oppose such a simple way of making our cities cleaner, healthier, and safer? Why is it *only* the Greens that support cycling?
Eamon Ryan is right.
Putin is paying for this war with exports of gas and coal.
If we break our dependency on fossil fuel, if we get our power from renewables, we can stop giving money to dictators.
In Ireland, we refused permission for the Barryroe oil field, and blocked Shannon LNG, but have massively accelerated renewable energy. That's the difference
@greenparty_ie
is making in government.
If you own your own home, get solar panels. Get a 10 year loan, at a green interest rate. You will, at worst, break even over the 10 years, probably save money. And after the loan is paid off, you have basically free electricity for another 20 years.
Cathal Garrad from Ballsbridge is earning over 13000 euro a month from 27 tenants in a fire-hazard prefab, but complains "there is a war on landlords".
The
@D12BikeBus
yesterday morning was brilliant. So many kids joined, and they were all enjoying themselves so much. But it shouldn't exist. Kids should be able to cycle to school in safety every day. They shouldn't need an escort of parents and gardaí.
So our retrofit is finished - external and attic insulation, solar panels - we're just waiting for the BER assessment. We're very happy with it. But should the government have given us grants? ....
These things don't just happen.
Passenger numbers are up because
@greenparty_ie
is funding public transport, opening new Local Link bus routes, investing in rail and Metrolink. If you want this to continue, you need to continue electing people who prioritise public transport.
A record number of people used public transport last year as new figures from the National Transport Authority show use rose by almost a quarter in a year
@RSAIreland
It's broad daylight in that photo. Please stop obsessing about high-vis, and start campaigning for protected cycling infrastructure and better enforcement of traffic laws.
These lads looked at how much the Green Party has got done in the last few years, and decided they needed to form a party to stop us. They've picked their side, have you?
A full year of data from the solar panels - maybe I will be less obsessive about them now 📷
116kWh for October, makes 2.342MWh for the year. That's about 90% as much electricity as we use. (8 panels, for 3 adults and a teenager)
I'm running for election to Dublin City Council, because I think we have to deal with climate change and the destruction of nature, in ways that make the city better for everyone. I would appreciate your support.
I'll be standing for election next year, as the Green Party candidate in Ballyfermot-Drimnagh. There'll be a lot of posters and leaflets needed along the way, if you'd like to help it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
@newschambers
They have a clear position - they're sitting on the fence, so they can tell both farmers and environmentalists that they really support them.
Supervalu in Walkinstown have applied for planning permission for over 1000 sqm of solar panels. The rate of solar installations in the last two years is just amazing.
When Ireland was one of the poorest countries in the world, Irish people emigrated everywhere in search of a better life. Now we are one of the richest countries, with an outsize effect on global warming, and we want to keep everyone else out?

A cull is a selective slaughter of animals. Cattle are slaughtered all the time in Ireland, no-one is suggesting that we increase the numbers killed. The proposal is that fewer new cattle will be bred.
No party has had as much impact on Dublin in the last five years. The
@greenparty_ie
councillors had a clear vision of what they wanted to achieve, and put in a lot of hard work to get there. If you like what we've done, vote Green on June 7th and we'll continue to deliver.
We know what needs to be done - renewable energy, retrofits, reduce car journeys, reduce livestock numbers. Are the Green Party the only people willing to do these things?
Time to wake up
@Ryanair
, there's a climate emergency going on.
2019 - Ryanair joins 9 coal power stations in top 10 carbon-emitting companies in Europe.
2023 - Ryanair emissions 20% higher than 2019.
Metrolink, Dart+ West, Dart+ Southwest, BusConnects and Cork Community Rail... or more roads.
@greenparty_ie
is delivering public transport, so we're not locked in to car dependency.
A lot of people asking the reasonable question - why is the price of renewable electricity going up? Wind and sun aren't getting more expensive. The reason is, the price of electricity is set by the most expensive generator...
The kindest thing to say about this is that it is incoherent.
We must continue a cruel system because we're dealing with criminal lunatics who only respond to fear? Tell me, garda, how is that working out so far?
Masked men harass Minister Roderic O'Gorman by covering his home in unfounded propaganda banners this evening. And it appears stopping a car in his street. Is this where we are now? Is your home no longer a safe space? Where will this end?
Reactions to the Dublin City traffic plan remind me of the scene in The Snapper, where Colm Meaney apparently thinks the fastest way from Kilbarrack to the Rotunda involves driving past Busaras, around Trinity, and up O'Connell Street.
The insanity...
If global temperatures rise by 4 degrees but Ireland is still temperate, people won't be popping over to look at cows and drink Guinness, they'll be migrating in their millions
“Tourist numbers in Ireland could increase by more than 9% on current levels if there was an average increase in temperatures of 4C”
At +4C, billions will be facing famine, chaos & death. Good to know they can holiday in Ireland to get away from it all

Well-deserved standing ovation for Roderic O'Gorman today. We are firm in our principles and will not be silenced. We have the policies, the track record of delivery, and the ambition to fight climate breakdown.

Some people are determined to learn the wrong lessons, to try to retreat into the comfort of the past rather than try to face the future. We have to start making the right choices.
The evidence for the introduction of red light cameras is overwhelming. A single camera was installed for 164 days, and detected 813 violations. When tickets were issued, there were no successful appeals, and the number of offences halved.
I join a regular litter pick in Walkinstown, and my bag is usually half-full of plastic bottles and cans. Things that could be recycled, but aren't.
From February 1st, anyone who dumps their bottle on the ground is literally throwing money away. That will change behaviour.
The upcoming Deposit Return Scheme represents a major change for shoppers & businesses.
From 1 February, customers will have to pay a 15-25c deposit on every plastic bottle or can they buy & they'll have to bring back their empties to get that refunded
I received a call from an area in Westmeath where a family travelled from Bangladesh, flew into Belfast Airport last week, travelled down to Dublin to IPAS and were given their OWN front door for a NEW 3-bed apartment. They had resided in the UK for some time before travelling.
@Alan__Shatter
It's a tax on unearned income. You don't pay inheritance tax when you die. You pay inheritance tax when you receive hundreds of thousands of euro that someone else earned.
I've seen lots of people asking when they will start getting paid for the solar energy they feed back to the grid. This is the situation....

The Green Party promised to block the development of this LNG terminal. We made it a condition of starting government talks. There was a clear statement in the Programme for Government that an LNG terminal would not be supported.
Delivered.

The Green Party's MEP for Dublin says flying is too cheap and we need to pay more for it if we are to tackle climate change.
“I think we simply cannot go on with €10 flights to halfway across Europe while the planet is burning," Mr Cuffe told Newstalk.
This is the end of human civilization staring us in the face. This is the most important issue in the world today. This is a question we have to answer, a choice we have to make, before it is made for us.
If you're delivering into the city, if you're working in the city and need to bring tools, if you need to drive in for some other reason... you still can.
If you want to take a *shortcut through* the city centre... you'll have problems.
One strand of the

in government is funding public transport properly, to give people an alternative to private cars. Today I visited Inchicore Works to see a prototype of the carriages that will be coming to DART lines soon.
There are 142 million pigs, 76 million cows, 60 million sheep, and 11 million goats in Europe.
There are about 20,000 wolves.
Wolves are not the problem, leave them alone.
The concentration of wolf packs has become a danger for livestock and potentially for humans.
We urge local and national authorities to take action where necessary.
Local communities, scientists and others are also invited to submit data on wolves and their impacts ↓
The environmental action gains of the last few years can not be taken for granted. There are plenty of people trying to reverse them.
Want Green? Vote Green.
An attempt to halt the implementation of the Dublin City Centre Transport Plan, which aims to reduce the dominance of cars on the city’s streets, has been defeated by councillors.
Deposit return scheme machine installed at Supervalu in Walkinstown. The scheme will go live on February 1st. 20 cent deposit on plastic bottles and cans, which you get back at one of these machines.
Sinn Fein refuse to commit to climate action. They oppose the nature restoration law. If you want a government that will act on climate, you need to vote for someone else.

If you live in Ireland, there are local, European, general, and presidential elections in the next two years. Time to make sure you are registered to vote, and see what elections you are eligible to vote in.
Free solar panels for schools means lower school bills (and they get paid for their exports during the summer when school is closed), and less fossil fuel use. Good for everyone!
The Government is looking at putting solar panels on the homes of vulnerable people who cannot reduce their energy consumption because of their medical needs, Minister Eamon Ryan has said | Read more:
Sinn Fein's position on the Nature Restoration law is indistinguishable from that of Fianna Fail and Fine Gael. Staying on the right side of the IFA is more important than protecting nature.
We need an EU nature restoration law that addresses the concerns of Irish farming communities. Tackling biodiversity decline & the difficult socio-economic conditions our farming communities face is required, a law conscious of both.

It’s not a good text.
It’s not a balanced text.

It won’t be accepted.

The people of Dublin want to walk or wheel more, cycle more, use more public transport, and drive less. That's what they want govt to spend money on. They want more cycle paths and low-traffic neighbourhoods, and they want cars off the footpath.
🔴In the first 2 hours of Slow Down Day, GoSafe checked 15,786 vehicles for speeding nationwide
🔴50 drivers were detected for speeding

- 130km/h in a 100km/h zone
- 155km/h in a 120/h zone

One of the great injustices of the world is that the enormous consumption of wealthy countries like Ireland - our fast fashion, meat-eating, multiple car, multiple flights, throwaway culture - is paid for by poorer countries...
New school zone bollards in Crumlin had their first test today. If this had been had been an hour later and there were no bollards this would very likely have been a mass casualty situation.

He's completely right. Sika deer were introduced in the 19th century for hunters. They are ravaging the countryside, eating everything else, and their numbers need to be reduced.
Another impressive month for solar power from our panels. 254kWh generated, that's more than we use in an average month (210kWh).
We have a 3kW system, 8 panels - a fairly standard setup. It makes enormous sense to invest in solar panels if you can.
@aaroadwatch
Private cars use too much public space, when driven and when parked. They make our streets dangerous and our air dirty. We have all been penalised for decades by a transport policy that revolved around cars. Time for the balance to shift back in favour of people.
Replacing every car with an electric version is a bad idea - we need to reduce car journeys. But replacing taxis with electric cars is a great idea, because they are high mileage vehicles that can plug gaps in public transport.
1/1 🚖Grants of up to €20K for electrification of small public service vehicles (SPSV), such as taxis, hackneys & limousines are available under the €15m eSPSV Grant Scheme for 2023.
🚕The eSPSV Grant Scheme has supported over 1,400 SPSV drivers since it launched in 2018.
I never thought of myself as someone who would join a political party, but I decided I had to get off the sidelines. I found a party full of people who, like me, were driven by the urgency of the climate crisis.
