Computers set. Getting some essentials out of the office for the lockdown. It is absolute ghost town on-campus. It might be the safest place right now, if not the most serene. lol

The review/perspective piece "Emergence of Brains" by Bill Bialek (@wbialek, @PRX_Life) traces the roots of the 2024 @NobelPrize back to Geoffrey Hinton (@geoffreyhinton) and John Hopfield (@HopfieldJohn), highlighting their foundational contributions to neural networks. It.
A Review on the 2024 #NobelPrize in Physics "for foundational discoveries and inventions that enable #MachineLearning with #ArtificialNeuralNetworks" highlights the origins of this work in physics of living systems and what the future holds for the field.

Unpopular opinion: I was just at a 3-day meeting at @FlatironInst where the momentum, depth of discussion and engagement are fundamentally unmatchable to online meetings. More importantly, I was able to drop in and discuss sci w friends and colleagues at #Flatiron_CCN &

Currently, writing a foundational paper on "Connectionism in biological systems"✍️📜, I keep bouncing to this recent manuscript that I released on "Rethinking Physical Complexity in the Data-Driven Era". I am biased by my own thoughts and can't escape the embedded.
Here is another, a new paper that I finished a few weeks ago but hadn't a chance to announce it. 'Rethinking Physical Complexity in the Data-Driven Era' introduces a unified framework for statistical, algorithmic, and dynamical complexity measures. 📜1/n.

Thanks for sharing these @wbialek .See Les Houches "Ambitions for theory in physics of life" (notes from Bill Bialek).
The summer schools at Les Houches are a magnificent tradition. I was honored to lecture there in 2023, and my notes now are published as "Ambitions for theory in the physics of life."

Further on the story of a founding father of computational neurophysiology (and founder of @MPICybernetics.): .". 1943, radio operators Werner Reichardt, 19 yrs, Bernhard Hassenstein, 21 yrs, met by chance, each one sharing what fascinated him: Reichardt was enthusiastic.
What an absolutely cool person!.I was reading about the history of computational neurophysiology and @MPICybernetics and came across this: Tommy Poggio on Werner Richardt (founder of Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics @MPICybernetics ).

Received this in the mail. Hopefully soon it will be a reality and we see not just khamanei but the whole Islamic Republic collapse into the trash bin of the history. It is time for the renewal of Iran and the Middle East. I hope that @Europarl_EN @POTUS recognize the importance
