Powerful relationships forged between students and faculty are crucial to the #Elon experience. We are grateful for passionately curious students and for faculty who care deeply about them. We're thankful for the power of mentorship and its abundance at Elon. #ElonGrateful

The MR scans below show 2 patients with herniated discs. โ
One is small โ
One large Q: Who needs surgery? A: Neither! Both had minor symptoms, and are doing well with Physiotherapy. GREAT message from this neurosurgeon.

If you stop thinking of exercise as a way to lose weight, you may actually enjoy it.

Not sure how I missed this when it first came out! Positive affective processes underlie positive health behaviour change https://t.co/soG4Vdbyll Fabulous article.

Positive health behaviours such as physical activity can prevent or reverse many chronic conditions, yet a majority of people fall short of leading a healthy lifestyle. Recent discoveries in affect...

When we cut PE, we fail to teach lifelong PA habits. When we use exercise as punishment, we succeed only in framing it as an unpleasant experience. Changing a culture of inactivity starts w/ the habits, attitudes, & affective experiences we provide kids related to PA & exercise.
"We know that participation in #PhysicalActivity and #Exercise has emotional consequences. Even though this is a society that is in need of higher levels of physical activity, a lot of the things we do are not optimal in terms of creating positive affective or emotional memories"

Physical activity can give people many benefits, but only if they're physically active. "The prime objective must always be to keep the children active and the adults active" - Dr. Paddy @Ekkekakis
Video by @IowaStateUNews in which @M_A_Ladwig and I explain the rationale and the motivation behind our research examining affective associations for #PhysicalActivity in #children. The handsome fella on the bike is the product of my long-term collaboration w/ Dr @SpyridoulaVazou

While most of us want a diagnostic image (ie, x-ray, MRI) to tell us "why we hurt," images actually give us little information about what's causing pain. https://t.co/N8irp9BrtX

Itโs National Falls Prevention Awareness Day. Falls and fear of falling can diminish ability to lead a full and independent life. While 1 in 4 older adults falls each year, falling is not a part of normal aging. A PT can help you reduce your risk of falls.

A nice article from Michael Kelly --> To get the population active requires a great deal more than drip-feeding them information and evidence. It requires increasing peopleโs opportunities to be able to be physically active (i.e. not just more gyms!). โ PA well worth investment!
More on behaviour change. https://t.co/ZLNbcRfQ7C
