One can always debate the case on the merits, but the idea that a prominent politician should have carte blanche to commit crimes because any effort at accountability would constitute "jailing your political opponents" doesn't make any sense.

Jailing your political opponents is bad, actually.

So fascinated by some of the responses I'm seeing to the convictions. Whatever you think about the process, how do you get from "I think this person was treated unfairly by the legal system" to "Therefore, he should run the United States"?

Detoqueville take on twitter from a guy who’s been on it 3 times in the last decade. It warps people’s minds by forcing them to adopt an extreme version of themselves for attention, often around a single issue, often adjacent to but not completely congruent with their expertise.

Woooo where to begin on this one. @VPrasadMDMPH was imho one of the more reasonable voices in the pandemic. I didn’t like the valence of that Ron desantis video. I smell a little audience capture. Still think Jonathan Howard did him dirty on the @GurusPod . Guru right of reply?

One thread that could’ve been more explicit in the @lexfridman @ESYudkowsky pod is the *severity* of misalignment if we don’t get more than one try and if it’s smart enough to destroy us. Even if it’s only 1%, the severity if we’re wrong warrants major attention.

It can be true that COVID had a natural origin and also that there was reason to consider the possibility of a lab leak, and anybody who proposed it was gaslit and called a conspiracy theorist, and finally that there really are lab leak conspiracy theorists. #Covidorigin @GurusPod

Would love to see @jessesingal take a crack at the negotiation science in books like Never Split The Difference. How much of the science actually replicated? How much are we over-applying findings with limited utility, etc. Or maybe it’s 100% legit 🤷‍♂️

For the record I’m vaccinated: J&J in April, and Pfizer in early August.

So is the mainstream stance on vaccines now “they barely work against delta, because breakthrough cases, so everybody still has to mask and distance, but also everybody who doesn’t immediately get the vaccine we’ve just said doesn’t work is an idiot dead ender”?
