Public spending on kids generates higher returns for taxpayers than spending on adults -- often paying for itself as kids grow up to be richer adults who pay more in taxes. Yet the public spends WAY less per kid than per retiree -- why cut more? (@nhendren82 @bsprungkeyser 2020)

All industries conduct R&D. Child development is a big industry, and it gets much less R&D as a share of spending than other major industries. Why would we want *less* R&D on child development? cc @elonmusk (Lane & Varmus 1997)

In my latest post at Kidding Around I reflect on work by @Econ_Sandy and others showing that later-born kids do worse in many ways & work by @joepricebyu suggesting this reflects less high-quality time with parents.

I also find an opposing view by @ProfNickStephan interesting but unpersuasive -- that we should give kids proxy votes to "young adults" instead of parents. (1) YAs have low turnout and I doubt this policy would change that. (2) YAs do not care about affordable high-quality

In my latest Kidding Around post I argue we should allow more kids to vote AND we should give proxy votes to parents for any kids still deemed too young to vote. I cite this great paper by @StephenESachs and @KleinfeldJoshua because I found it galvanizing. If you're skeptical
NOW ON @SSRN: "GIVE PARENTS THE VOTE," with @KleinfeldJoshua, forthcoming in @NotreDameLRev Parents should be able to cast ballots for their children. And state legislatures can make it happen! From the abstract: Many of America’s most significant policy problems, from failing

There is no place for political violence, including the horrific incident we just witnessed in Pennsylvania. It is absolutely unacceptable and must be denounced in the strongest terms. My heart goes out to all the victims and I wish the former President a speedy recovery.

As one whose family has been the victim of political violence, I know firsthand that political violence of any kind has no place in our society. I thank God that former President Trump is safe. As we learn more details about this horrifying incident, let us pray that all those
