Manchester City are the first team to win the trophy in a Puma kit since Red Star Belgrade in 1991
Jack Butland looking well in his Gordon Banks tribute kit.
The fact that he’s able to wear same colour shorts and socks as team-mates without it causing Armageddon would call into question the need for full GK kits
New post:
Tonight, Manchester United will wear red shorts for the first time since 1957 - and it will be the first time ever for them to wear white shirts and red shorts
A message for Fifa's kit selection people:
Please hold your nerve - this has been a fairly good WC for kits and France-Argentina in 2018 was fine with both in primary strips.
Do not go with all-navy against stripes-white-white
Disappointing to read about the anti-Macron protests in France.
If Nike's mismatching socks in 2016 got a free pass, they shouldn't be piling on one of the smaller manufacturers.

The story of the Republic of Ireland shirt that adidas designed in 1989 only for the FAI to veto it as they hadn’t been given prior knowledge
On St Patrick’s Day, a look back at the article about how, in 1989, adidas tried to give Ireland their own version of the West Germany design but the FAI refused to allow it
Today is the 29th anniversary of

Even discounting the various styles of black socks worn, this evening Manchester United will wear their seventh different colour combination of the season - it will be the first time ever that the club will have worn white shirts and red shorts
Across 2004-05 and 2005-06, West Bromwich Albion wore 16 different kit combinations - all of them featuring navy, white and red. As well as demonstrating fine interchangeability, it showed that a second or third shirt can clash with the first but still be useful
Post from earlier: A look at Manchester United's kits in 1994-95, when strict Uefa rules meant that, for the Champions League, the 'Umbro' seats in the representation of Old Trafford on the home shirt had to be removed
For a couple of years in the early 2000s, the centre circle for the Champions League final had the logo in it, a nice touch but sadly dispensed with (pic thanks to

PSG, Inter, Barcelona and Tottenham will all wear their new Nike third kits in the Champions League this week.
Both PSG and Inter are at home but PSG have nominated the white strip as their CL first-choice. Real Madrid will wear navy in Paris as a result

undertook a forensic analysis of the editing facilities - including shorts/socks interchangeability - in Pro Evolution Soccer 5, which was released 15 (!) years ago today

, Chelsea wearing navy socks from their change kit at Leeds rather than royal blue alternates.
They did so in pre-season but this will be the first time in a competitive game since they had to borrow a set from Coventry in 1993
Tennis's US Open comes to an end this weekend, so what better excuse than to celebrate the adidas gear worn by Ivan Lendl as he won the men's singles title in 1985, 1986 and 1987
The new Manchester United third kit has white shorts and red socks as the default but with red alternative shorts - when they are worn it'll be the first time for United to wear red shorts since the 1950s, when Matt Busby experimented with them for European games
Club-produced retro shirts often lack something in authenticity so it's good to see Crystal Palace have the Bukta logo and fabric pattern and Fly Virgin on theirs
All set for Wimbledon to begin - here's what Stefan Edberg wore as he beat Boris Becker in the 1988 final to claim his first title.
The abstract design with the stylised 'SE' was used in a couple of colourways

Sometimes, football can throw up perfectly fitting moments
Celtic clinching the Scottish title on the anniversary of Tommy Burns' death, away to Kilmarnock, the other club for which he played and managed, was one of those
Celtic's goalkeeper shirts, 1989-91. Yellow was first-choice but the away strip was yellow and green too, so the grey was worn when an outfield change was needed
A curiosity with the new Arsenal retro releases is the use of navy cuffs on the long-sleeved away shirt.
In 1993-94, these only appeared on the set used for European games, with the domestic LS shirts having cuffs that matched the neck trim.
In March 1999, Johan Cruyff’s testimonial saw Barcelona play a Cruyff selection.
The kit was tribute to the 1992 EC final. Made by Vestisport, the shirts had a v-neck, like the real Meyba ones.
