Folks, shown below are the regular season results for 1-loss Ole Miss, the #6 Committee ranked team in college football. They are two spots away from getting a bye. Do you count 8 really bad opponents? I mean these are bad teams -- not talking SMU or Louisville -- truly bad

Bama is -1500 to make playoff, implying 93%. The 7% of mystery comes from getting killed be UGA while suffering an injury. That 7% is Miami's chance. Notre Dame is -520, implying 80%. The 20% of mystery comes from BYU's chance of winning Big 12, in turn knocking out ND. Math!

So @AdamSchefter doesn't see a Ben Johnson-type coaching prospect in the NFL this cycle. But he sees Marcus Freeman. "The only guy I can think of that would be in this category, and I don't know if he'd be interested, is Marcus Freeman..I would want him on the phone right now"

Most of the AP voters, Most of the coaches poll voters, the playoff committee, virtually every advanced metric.
Is there anyone out there who genuinely believes Notre Dame should be ranked ahead of Miami that is NOT a Notre Dame fan? There’s simply just no rational way to explain it. If ND had a bunch of great wins you could maybe sell me on that but they’ve beaten no one. Makes 0 sense.

The conversation is over. Thanks to everyone here who was a good sport.
Miami's ticket to the playoff is not the head to head over Notre Dame. It's being ranked above Oklahoma and BYU. Probable? No. But the committee has shown us that is the only way. And if they cared about what happens in Week 1, we'd hear a lot more about Bama/FSU.

If ND gets in and Miami doesn’t, it will further erode the importance of the regular season. I’m OK with both getting in, but identical records should mean the head-to-head is the tiebreaker if you have to choose between them.
