@jonas_lundstedt With less information, students are more optimistic about their academic ability and greater information negatively impacts self-belief. Policy makers should consider interventions to promote a growth mindset among students to harness the benefits of more information. (5/5)

@jonas_lundstedt Receiving more informative feedback worked to reduce the academic self-confidence of Swedish 15 year-olds relative to their Danish and Norwegian counterparts, while no corresponding pattern was found among 11 year olds, who were not affected. (4/5)

@jonas_lundstedt Exploiting quasi-random variation in exposure to the new scale, we find negative effects on a range of outcomes. We find that more informative grades led to reduced HS graduation (both academic and vocational track) and lower STEM participation at HS and university. (3/5)

@jonas_lundstedt Setting: In 2011, Sweden introduced a more granular grading scale in 8-9th grade, replacing a scale that had 3 passing grades with A-F letter grades. By increasing the number of passing grades from 3 to 5, students received a more accurate appraisal of their performance. (2/5)

Accepted paper thread! More informative grades have negative impacts on students’ education outcomes. This is what @jonas_lundstedt and I find in our paper now published in the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization. Link: https://t.co/1VwMFzorVb (1/5)
