This is a gutting loss. I met D’Angelo, who I knew as Michael, through his A&R, Gary Harris, in 1992. We became inseparable for about a year. He’s the greatest artist I’ve ever known, but he was also a beautiful man, brimming with humor, tenderness, and love.

I was number 1 on the call sheet of Half & Half on UPN & played Mona Thorne At the time only a handful of black women in all history could claim that stat It feels like black sitcoms disappeared after that & were replaced w/ pretty pale teen dramas ¯\(°_O)/¯
It's actually crazy how much black sitcoms (for adults and kids) were so popular and mainstreamed to the point of being a formative part of so many people's childhoods--of all backgrounds--in the US through the 90s and early 00s and then they just... stopped getting made.

It’s actually not even this deep. We liked family matters when we were young. We’re grown now and the show simply didn’t age well. That’s all. Living Single, a show where the star was a thick BW who ran her own hip-hop magazine and dated fine ass men, aged well.

Kendrick is brilliant. His work is so intentional and utterly masterful. I still can’t believe Drake allowed himself to believe he was this man’s peer. Even worse, that he was better than him. I’m almost impressed by that level of delusion.

I really need all these major entertainment publications to please hire Black writers. There’s so reason to be making mistakes when you could just have a qualified people in these rooms that actually understands other cultures because they are from it and live it.
