Iran has targeted a China-owned and flagged ship and scared another. What does this tell us? Iranian command-and-control is likely destroyed, and the IRGC is operating as autonomous cells, often taking cues from public statements by Iranian officials—some of whom have said Iran

This is the popular narrative but it's not correct. Inflation de-anchored in the late 1960s under pressure from Great Society & Vietnam spending and Martin acquiescing to LBJ's pressure. Inflation was kept artificially low in the early 1970s by wage and price controls. By early

I wonder if people are aware that the OPEC oil embargo of 1973 lasted six months. Yet the inflationary effects of that six month embargo were felt for the rest of the decade.

@cafreiman I don't think there is any way under US law to make it difficult/impossible to close a grocery store. No court is going to rule that you have an obligation to lose money.

NEW: Iran has deployed fewer than 10 naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s reticence to deploy the naval mines en masse indicates that while Iran is willing and capable of mining the strait, it remains hesitant to do so due to the far-reaching political and economic costs

The Gulf Arab states fucked up so bad by allowing the US military to use their soil to launch attacks on Iran. Just absolutely unbelievable. They are utterly screwed no matter what happens now. Softly, softly, a lesson here for the US's allies in East Asia. Will it be heeded?

When he says ā€œillegal tax,ā€ that’s not hyperbole. The WA state constitution forbids income taxes, but the legislature passed one anyway because they expect the liberal state Supreme Court to rewrite the constitution. It’s an affront to rule of law.
