Adria knows 3 things: she is lost, the river bends to her will, & Two-Face is killing the forest. When a boy washes up, she promises to save him. But that will mean facing Two-Face, who is only hungry for one thing: her.

I GOT MY OFFER FROM MY DREAM JOB AND I START ON MONDAY!!!!!!!!!!!! I was lucky enough to get two job offers after FIVE MONTHS OF FUNEMPLOYMENT (not as fun as it sounds) and I am so relieved and I might actually be able to get Christmas presents for my family this year 🥹🥹
@_withcindy
My sister lived in South Korea and she said she once went to the drugstore without makeup on and they asked if she was okay and if she needed a doctor 💀
This bitch is beautiful. Look at her skin. It look like butter. She looks like a beautiful buttered piece of delicious toast and I love her. Look at her eyebrows. Them boys perfect.
One thing about my characters is that they EAT. and not eat as in slay, but eat as in, they consume food! Y’all be forgetting to feed your characters! How r they going to save the world or fall in love on an empty stomach?? Actually, let’s see some food snippets! 👀
@SEPatrick4
I don’t think so, because he just walked away after handing it to me, and didn’t leave a number or Instagram and the note was really respectful and I think objectively not creepy? Idk others may feel differently
I HAVE AN AGENT?! 🐋🏔️💕
So excited to announce that I have signed with
@jrosenlitagent
at
@seymouragency
! I can’t think of a better person to champion SONG IF CHEVEYO. I cannot wait to take you all to Gran’s cabin (and make you laugh, make you cry, and maybe make you angry)🤭
WE NEED A QUERY / SUBMISSIONS TINDER
For authors, we upload our queries / book profiles. Then we select things we want in an agent. We swipe on agents, they swipe on us. No rejections, only matches. And same for the agent --> editor pipeline
#amquerying
#WritingCommunity
I’m sharing the rejection that made me break down into tears last week. I think it’s important to share, because most agents don’t have the time to personalize in this way, but it’s encouraging bc I think they often pass even on things that they enjoyed. ❤️ nicest rejection ever
I wasn’t going to make any type of statement about what was circulated last night, but as I am the topic of the seventeen pages of absolutely foul vitriol, I do have a few things to say.🧵
@moniza_hossain
Omg I think this has everything to do with the mindlessness of consumption. It’s like when people binge Euphoria in a day and complain when it takes a year to release the next season. Creation takes so much time, energy, and passion. It hurts so much to know how people see us.
I can’t believe I got 6 agent likes today. Im literally crying in my car. I was so worried no one would care about my little orca. I’m seriously so humbled by this whole thing, even if none turn into offers. I thought my concept didn’t fit into enough boxes I’m just so thankful🥹

This is my friend Gerald. He lives in South Africa and he’s a wild giraffe but he likes people and he tries to hide thinking we can’t see him but his head sticks out. He has a baby named Jessi. His mate and other baby were killed by hunters. Y would u want to hurt these animals
@millselle
He also charges his fans $500 to watch him sing what can only be described as very poor karaoke (that appears to be completely unpracticed ) whilst wearing a glorified trash bag and seatbelt
Dear publishing,
If you stop buying middle grade books, stop stocking them in your stores, and stop investing in them, who is going to be reading your YA books in 5 years?
Just wondering!
I’ve been seeing a LOT of agents recently tweeting about falling in love with submissions and I WANT ONE OF YALL TO FEEL THAT WAY ABOUT ME 😩 🗣🗣

Girl I’m a terrible example I’ll skip school if it rained the night before because it messes up my vibes😂😭 hopefully someone picked them up❤️ so cute that they’re sticking together
After what feels like a lifetime, I couldn’t be more thrilled to announce that I am now repped by
@sophiamreads

@NewLeafLiterary
!🍃 Sophia’s enthusiasm for Cheveyo AND Adria was unmatched, and I am so excited to make a big splash with her and the New Leaf team! 🐋 💦
I just got my *second* personalized rejection talking about how much they enjoyed my voice and can't wait until I get an agent.
WHY DIDNT *YOU* WANT TO BE MY AGENT??? 😭 dont do me like this
#amquerying
Idk if y’all realize this but…we as authors should ALL support each other. When readers are reading books that they love, guess what? THEY BUY MORE BOOKS. It is GOOD for readers to buy, and LOVE, books by other debuts. It encourages success for all of us. Don’t be dense
@gabe_j19
And for those who don’t know how to do research: this is an official statement from the American Veterinary Medical Association, which is accredits US veterinary schools, as well as veterinary schools overseas, and represents every board-certified vet in the US.
I was laid off from my job today. And while I am very heartbroken and scared because my dog has expensive medical needs, I just have to keep telling myself THIS IS PART OF THE PLOT and this will be the “rock bottom” part of my TedTalks??😭 but genuinely worst day ever 😋👍🏼
I always wonder if agents reject something but regret it. Like do you ever wake up the next day and be like “dang I wish I requested that one thing”?? I must know
#AmQuerying
#askagent
I got it! Rejections from pitch events are like when someone hits on you and then when you reply they tell you you’re ugly and ask why you’re talking to them
#AmQuerying
My dream agent did not let me down this morning 🥹🥹🥹🥹 that’s all. I’m off to start a new read so I’ll be taking a little break for a few days
#amquerying
I am 28 days into querying and here are my feelings:
- every email is an automatically assumed rejection
- 1 personalized rejection made me sob
- its an experience that makes you feel on top of the world AND like a piece of dog shit on the bottom of someone's shoe simultaneously
We can’t forget about kids, y’all. Real kids. Not adult women who read YA (love you guys too). But if you guys haven’t seen these vids of teachers saying their 4th graders can’t read….we NEED middle grade. A love for reading starts with childhood. Don’t forget childhood.
A few people messaged me to ask about my request rate—here’s the query blurb that got me over 55 full requests + 6 offers of rep! I know a lot of people are hopping in the trenches this year, and I wish you all the best of luck. I have some blogposts on my website for more tips!
Y’all better leave Kiawentiio ALONE. I am tired of y’all tearing real indigenous actresses down because they don’t fit your perception of how we’re supposed to look.
After you get an agent, it gets harder, not easier.
The competition is MORE fierce. There are far less editors than there are agents and far far less than there are authors.
Editors have MORE work, and they’re even slower
There’s MORE ghosting.
Your chances are even slimmer.
I've heard that some people don't love the fact that I wrote a book about orcas, but do you know what? I wrote this book for someone really special to me who died. My papa loved orcas, and he made me love them too. I'm not ashamed to write something that may seem "silly" (1)
A sib + I recently left our agent. Im going to make a blogpost about what Qs you ACTUALLY need to ask on the call. Freshly agented people usually write these posts, but the most important Qs are the ones u didnt realize existed. Link in bio for my newsletter so you don't miss it!
Lastly, doubling down on being part of a conversation involving ANY mention of child characters + best*iality is certainly a choice.
This is by far the most disturbing part of this. You should be ASHAMED, and if you’re defending being part of this, you need serious help.
I’m still looking for the perfect editor partner for this project. It’s so near and dear to my heart regardless of everything that’s happened over the last 24 hours. So I guess I’ll throw one last pitch out before I go back into hiding 🤍

Blogpost later this week 🎉
I am beyond appalled, and while Cardigan may hold the weight of the responsibility here, I implore you not to forget who else was involved. Each person is responsible for their own sick additions to this conversation.
This was not a critique of my work. This was a festival for a group of extremely bitter people who get joy out of flaying the character of their peers.
So I guess I gained 400 followers since that hit tweet. Guys I also write books so if you love books hi! And I also write books at the same coffee shop every day, so I will let you guys know if I run into Note Guy ™️ again😚
While the comments about my book were hurtful, what really disturbed me was the abhorrent perversion of bisexuality, the mockery of my chronic pain, and the disgusting comments about autism.
This is a very small industry, and it can be difficult for newer writers to determine what groups to join. It’s easy to get roped into a community and feel a sense of belonging, but this level of hatred is not normal. Please be careful of who you trust. Love you all🫶
I am unfortunately back in the querying trenches🥲 it happens! Agents, if you’re looking for a fast-paced YA contemporary full of heart, orcas, heists, & teens vs Adults Doing Bad Things, I’d love to chat! Linking a pitch below ❤️ (warning: tears & laughter guaranteed)
Querying writers ask for my advice here fairly often (more on tiktok) but the biggest, most important advice I can give is something I think we don’t hear enough:
Querying does not end with a full request.
You should be proud of them, but that’s when the real test begins.
I am not an angry person, but I have to be honest, these messages not only hurt and broke my heart, but angered me deeply. Having my work described in such a vile way feels like a gross violation in so many ways. Reading those messages tarnished a project I’ve worked SO hard on.
I will never address this group again, and I would just like to move on. I am seriously very tired of all this and want to focus on my books and lifting up my friends. Please, just be kind. It’s really not a hard thing to do.
I try extremely hard to always be kind. I genuinely care about helping newer writers and adding positively to this community. I *passionately* care about other authors and truly want only the best for each of you.
That is why it’s so extremely difficult for me to wrap my head around the vulgar, disgusting, ableist, biphobic messages that were leaked related to my book. Especially considering I have never had an actual conversation with the host of that message thread.
In honor of going on sub extremely soon, here is some fun cover art & the new title for Song of Cheveyo, now THE DEEDS THAT BIND US.
This book has:
👊🏼 environmental activism
🕵🏼♀️ teens VS Adults Doing Bad Things
👩🏼❤️💋👨🏾 enemies to lovers
😱 bi-panic
🔫 👵🏻 a badass grandma

To celebrate THREE THOUSAND of you (!!!!!) I’m giving away a query + 10 pages critique!

3) ❤️ this tweet
I’ll choose my fav tomorrow at 8pm CT!
Discussing my 16 y/o MC, a CHILD, in relation to such inappropriate topics that I will not list here and never wish to speak of—was frankly troubling and extremely upsetting.
YELLOWJACKETS x BLACK MIRROR x SQUID GAME
6 vet interns. One dead tour guide. A single tank of gas. Over 1k miles to safety. Hidden wildlife cameras everywhere they go. Someone is watching, and getting out alive is not an option.

Idk who needs to hear this, but reading queries is NOT an agents' job. Agents' jobs are to sell their clients work. Query reading is unpaid labor. Prepping a book for sub is technically unpaid labor, which is why it requires "love"/passion. Freelance editors can take on work (1)
Also, PS; I was not the only person talked about in this group, and I would like to say to anyone else who has been affected by them, I’m so sorry and my DMs are open. For newer writers, please be careful of the groups you join.
I have never cried from a rejection but I just got THE NICEST personalized rejection that actually has me in tears and wondering WHYYYYYYYY
#amquerying
#amCRYING
As some participants of this conversation said, I should be able to handle critiques of my work. This would be one thing if anyone in the conversation had actually read the book.
