Yes. Too many times I left leave time on the table for the team. The team gave not one damn when I got ‘laid off’ after 24.5 years. Take ALL your time off.
My dad — my 77-year-old, Franklin, Tenn., born-and-raised, African-American dad — comes rushing in the room. “Put the TV on 50!” ... What’s on? ... “The Preds!” ... WTH?
Throw another log on the 'unemployed sports journalists courtesy of Gannett' fire. Effective immediately, I am no longer sports editor at The Daily Herald. Thanks to the athletes/coaches/admins of the programs I've been able to cover in and around MauryCo for the past 3.5 years.
How much more disrespectful could an organization be than to name a women’s basketball coach of the year award after a guy? I won’t even speak to the specific guy, or to the woman who should have been the obvious choice. But this is patently shortsighted and disrespectful.
NEWS: The U.S. Basketball Writers Association has announced its annual award for Women’s National Coach of the Year will now be named after Hall of Famer and UConn head coach Geno Auriemma.
Interesting that Michigan is the poster child for diversity, when Vanderbilt has an equal amount of minority players on its roster (seven each) ... Maybe since they're from the South, they don't fit the narrative ...
When I was stringing high school football games I’d have to keep my own stats and interview players in parking lots. Tonight I covered the Super Bowl and have been handed about 100 pages of notes, quotes and stats. Don’t let anyone ever tell you dreams don’t come true.
Damn. John Madden is gone. An entire generation only knows him as the inspiration for and title of a video game, or as one of football’s most insightful and entertaining color analysts. And that’s unfortunate. Because he was one hell of a coach before that. Rest In Peace, Coach.
No one would have ever convinced me that Kumar Rocker would be on the board at 10. I'm not sure what the guy was supposed to have done that he didn't do.
It’s the little things that matter. Watch
@VandyBoys
push in their chairs at the conclusion of their postgame press conference. No detail is too small.

Be sure and send that to your sixth-grade teacher. I failed typing my senior year. Five years later I was working at my hometown newspaper -- typing. Know that had to grate at her on the regular.
Instead of renaming pancake syrups and getting rid of chants and apologizing for trivial occurrences — can we arrest Breonna Taylor’s killers and focus on police reform?
Lot of “Vanderbilt” in the comments. Same Vanderbilt that’s playing later 2day for *another* ⚾️ conference championship. Same Vanderbilt that’s won two ⚾️ national championships in the last 9 yrs. Same Vanderbilt with the most consecutive NCAA tourney berths. Pretty shortsighted.
Wow,
@joelklatt
says we are close to conferences kicking schools out that aren't pulling their weight.
I remember the Big East did this with Temple in the 2000s but this would be a new level of cut-throat conference realignment. (via

TSU coach Eddie George and UT coach Josh Heupel play “rock/paper/scissors” for who speaks first during Tuesday’s meet-and-greet for area coaches at the Crow’s Nest in Green Hills ...
Listening to Kiley McDaniel on this Vanderbilt/Missouri game. The thought that five players could possibly be drafted ahead of Kumar Rocker should disqualify anyone from being a 'draft analyst'.
Wow, whoever thought that Vanderbilt would be turned into the bad guys. Haters gonna hate. We have been and always will be a class act.
@TimCorbin
will carry us with the utmost dignity and humility

This guy didn't have the plastic toy growing up with the different size/shape blocks that go in different size/shape holes and you have to twist and turn them to get them to fit ... And it shows ...
Four days in Murfreesboro ... Made it to Slick Pig on one, to Kleer-Vu on one, and covered the best high school baseball game I've seen on one ... Guess it's been a successful

CASTLEBERRY HIGH, FORT WORTH TX: “Do you want to talk to her? Because she’s black and she’s pissing me off.”
White student SLAPS her black teacher then calls her mom.
The restraint expected of black folks/underpaid teachers is other-worldly. 😳
If Corbin/Byrd/Meyer/Temple is your MtRushmore of Nashville coaches, that’s fine. I’d just hate to have to explain why John Merritt isn’t on there — or decide who to omit for him. Also, may wanna look up Jim Foster and Ken Dugan.
Here's the thing: LSU, the defending national champion, the No. 3 seed, with 29 wins, at home, didn't really need a lot of help. But the officials chose to give it to them.
Got to hang out with former Braves outfielder and Falcons safety Brian Jordan

at the 85th annual Nashville Old Timers Association banquet … Currently a member of the Braves broadcast team on Bally Sports, Jordan was the guest speaker for the event …
I’m watching a high school baseball coach coaching an 8U team in practice. And I’m hoping these kids and parents realize and appreciate this experience.

Someone told me earlier “I follow you

because you check so many boxes for me.” Confirms what I’ve long known: I’m not everybody’s cup of tea, but I’m somebody’s shot of bourbon. For those in the latter category, thanks.
Truly hate to hear this. Donovan was a statewide authority on Tennessee high school football, but that was exceeded by the quality person he was. Condolences to his family.
In honor of my cousin, John Willie Woods Jr. (2/20/47-10/30/66), and numerous others who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country, we observe

Pretty amazing to watch a local channel spend 3-4 minutes of its sports discussing UT’s spring football situation and no mention of Vanderbilt — whose spring game was supposed to have been tomorrow.
Time for a reminder of what I think it the greatest stat trivia piece in sports: Take away all of Hank Aaron's 755 home runs, and he'd still have more than 3,000 hits (3,771 total). Amazing.
Hawai'i announces it has withdrawn from playing Memphis in the Hawai'i Bowl because of a recent increase in COVID-19 cases as well as injuries and transfers. Game is scheduled for Friday and Memphis is already on the island. Brutal.
Congrats to Al Wilson, being recognized today at UT for his upcoming induction into the College Football Hall of Fame … Much deserved honor for one of the best to ever wear the orange …
@solomonmissouri
Always good when the quiet part gets said out loud. Coaches don’t mind taking more money the opportunity presents itself, but how dare a player do the same?
PSA: Please stop abbreviating graduation classes with the apostrophe after the number (24’). The apostrophe is for whatever is being replaced — ‘24, instead of 2024.
