@61harpy @Tanni_GT I have no objection to assisted dying in principle but cannot support this bill. We first need access to good palliative care for all who want/need it and we need proper safeguards. If the Lords are trashing the Bill, this is Kim's own fault for not listening earlier.

@Tanni_GT Sorry, but if you're disabled and unable to work and aren't provided with enough benefits to live, then it IS coercion. This IS already documented in Canada. If you are cutting benefits AND providing assisted dying access, it will be coercive. 10000% no question about it.

@LindaAizlewood I would hope so. Prognosis is not easy. We were called to my grandmothers bedside at least 15 times over an 18 month period. Drs are now being asked to make a statement on coercion. They need some time to do that and a framework to protect them

@Tanni_GT Those with disabilities and now the poor have all been specifically mentioned in this debate in the Lord’s. Dangerous ground Sadly financial pressure will be a factor for the poor as will be the lack of funding, family support etc for those who are disabled.

@Tanni_GT Listening to parts of the Lords debate anyone could be forgiven for thinking that poverty and not being able to get out of an economic hole could lead to certain parties advocating AD for this group. Sounds very much like the direction of travel experienced in other countries.

So being poor shouldn’t deny you access to assisted dying. I get the concept. But what if being poor pushes you to ask for AD.
