Excited to share our study on the population history of the Himalayas. One of the surprising findings is the high levels of differentiation within a relatively small geographic area https://t.co/hbgr6ITRUX

Unfortunate that the BBC thinks having a higher share price = larger market cap https://t.co/zxWEhx01cG

And on a personal note, as someone from the Middle East which was/is historically under-represented in global sequencing projects (e.g. 1KG, HGSV), happy to see some open-access data coming out of the region to help fill this gap.

During my PhD, I studied structural variation in the HGDP, where we identified about 2 Mb of new sequences (using short reads). Really excited about how long-reads are now uncovering a lot of new variation that we can now study! https://t.co/o8KMtx5152

Proud to see our preprint on generating an 'Arab Pangenome' out! Using both ultra-long/HiFi reads we generated phased assemblies (contig N50 > 100Mb) to identify over 100 million bases of new sequences not found in GRCh38, CHM13 or the recent pangenomes. https://t.co/YUV7Lq4vjk

Human pangenomes provide a comprehensive portrayal of genetic diversity of humans, yet it lacks representation of Arab populations. We constructed the Arab Pangenome Reference (APR) from 43 individ...
