A huge contribution to the #ancientDNA world! 7,000 y.o. genomes give new insight into a North African "ghost" lineage, show limited gene flow from sub-Saharan to Northern Africa despite a "green Sahara", and exhibit low amounts of Neandertal ancestry. Hope to see more of this!.

I'm beyond excited to share our new paper in Nature! We sequenced the first ancient human autosomal genomes from the Central Sahara, two ~7,000-year-old individuals from Takarkori in Libya, revealing a long-isolated North African lineage: Short thread: 1/n.

Our papers, out today in @nature, show how ancient DNA from the Eneolithic and Bronze Age steppe points to a North Pontic origin of the Indo-European language family and a Caucasus-Lower Volga (CLV) origin of Indo-Anatolian (inclusive of the now extinct Anatolian languages). 1/

A number of you have asked about a paper accompanying @aliakbari23 's selection browser -- and here it is! Leveraging large sample sizes, Akbari et al. identify AN ORDER OF MAGNITUDE MORE SIGNALS THAN PREVIOUS STUDIES! This is simply revolutionary work 🧬.
