I’m old enough to have covered politics when standards and integrity really counted.
Those days have long gone.
.
@GladysB
was right to resign in the face of such serious allegations.
And wouldn’t you be holding off the hagiographies until we see what happens in the inquiry?
BREAKING: Former

host
@KerryOBrien
has declined an Order of Australia award (an AO) in protest against tennis great Margaret Court receiving the top honour. Mr O'Brien says the decision to give Ms Court the award was 'deeply insensitive' and 'divisive'.
@abcnews
Here it is.
Judge for yourself.
No, Minister, I don't identify with the left. My job as an ABC journalist is to hold ALL sides of politics to account, as I was this morning.
It was, and is, a simple question.
You're welcome back on the show any time.

The PM says Hotel Quarantine has been 99.99% effective.
The 0.01% has sparked lockdowns/restrictions in most cities.
The 0.01% led to a 22% fall in the City of Melbourne's economy.
Howard Springs has a 100% success rate. No lockdowns. No deaths.
That 0.01% is wearing thin.
Our very own
@BreakfastNews
election year pledge:
We promise to be a 'Scomo' & 'Albo'-free zone. Nicknames for political leaders have no place on our show. Someone has to maintain standards.
And pollies using nicknames for us face the instant dump button!
Thank you.😀

Programming note: I won’t be on
@BreakfastNews
this week as I’m isolating at home. One of my kids has been deemed to be a close contact of a COVID case at the supermarket they work at. It’s frustrating, but I’ll do whatever I can to stop the spread of the virus. Get vaccinated!!
I am proudly voting for Laura Tingle to be the ABC’s next staff-elected director. In a field of very fine candidates, Laura’s experience, gravitas and ideas are just what we need on the ABC board right at the moment. She’ll be a fierce advocate.
@latingle
@nick_coatsworth
I respectfully disagree, Nick. To me, the saddest thing about the gallows was that it incited violence against politicians. Full stop. It was a worrying development. We need to stop this behaviour in its tracks in Australia.
I’ve run and I’ve run, but finally the virus has caught up with me 😞. I am feeling ok, bar a few sniffles and a sore throat. I will be back on
@BreakfastNews
as soon as I can. 🤞🤞Stay safe, everyone!
For what it's worth,
@KerryOBrien
would have been honoured for a 50 year career in journalism that included 7 Walkley awards for excellence, including the Gold Walkley. He's made quite a contribution to Australian society.
@abcnews
Shouldn’t the sad fact another person has died of COVID be revealed, by the Premier, at the very start of the media conference…and not left to the CHO?

This is the most powerful 90 seconds of TV I have seen in a long time.

So we’ve heard a bit this morning from the ‘you can’t make me’ brigade when it comes to wearing masks. If you’re in a Melbourne and refuse to wear a mask, you’re no better than an anti-vaxxer. Just do it. Please. 🙏
Tony Armstrong is a winner already for being the first

presenter to make an Acknowledgment of Country.
Let’s hope this winning streak continues! 🤞

The Tamil family at the centre of a four-year immigration battle have received permanent visas. The ABC has confirmed the family was visited by a Department of Home Affairs team at their Biloela home today and told they had been granted permanent visas.

One final thought for the day for my fellow Melburnians. Lockdowns…violent protests…an empty MCG In September (again)…and now a bloody earthquake..it is a character-forming time! There are people wanting to tear this city apart. But your strength & character is amazing.👏🤛
Enough.
Enough of the abusive comments about Lisa Millar, and other female presenters.
And enough of amplifying the bullying by republishing offensive comments.
Do better.
A gentle suggestion to my fellow Victorians: Today is not the day to tell the people of NSW what they should and shouldn’t be doing. Today is a day when they need kind words. The govt will be accountable for its actions. Those in the middle of all of this need ❤️.

So many things to ask the Prime Minister about this morning but, while he is popping up on the other breakfast TV shows, he has chosen not to appear on ours. 😔
We will keep asking for you!

Interesting fact-check on the Coalition's claims a hung parliament will lead to 'chaos and confusion'.
Turns out, according to this analysis, the Gillard minority government had more success in passing legislation than the Morrison government.

I’m not an expert, but I speak to plenty of them.
I just don’t want my kids..and kids..getting Delta, especially when the science on the impact of Long Covid is far from settled.
So, please get vaccinated (if you can)! 💉 💉

Sure, there’s always been a robust back and forth between the ABC and News Corp.
The ABC, like any media outlet, needs to be accountable.
But that editorial today in the

As we continue to report on the horrendous toll of the Texas school shooting...yet another one... Australians should continue to be grateful for the strength and courage shown by John Howard and Tim Fischer after the 1996 Port Arthur massacre.
Coronavirus is causing so much disruption at the moment. Beyond the health impact, people are losing their livelihoods and our way of life has been altered dramatically. Some things never change though, including The Australian’s obsession with the ABC.
It is sad.
And as we farewell
@paulwkennedy

To be honest, I am increasingly conflicted about the Melbourne Cup.
Yes, it's huge event (and God knows Melbourne needs them at the moment).
But I can't overlook the fact 7 horses have died on Cup day since 2013.
That really doesn't sit easily with me.
Genuinely torn.
Today, I mark 10 years at

The show has come a long way...as has my wardrobe.
It is just as thrilling to be in the studio as it was on my first day, although slightly less terrifying!
Thanks to the the amazing Breakfast team and our wonderful viewers.
